The Rangers roster looks very bad on paper. Should have focused on acquiring another solid defenseman via trade or free agency and instead they’re focused on going back to the 90’s

At least there was 2018.

Tinordi, Blais, Reaves, Goodrow… that’s a lot of bad hockey. Blais is a clear downgrade from Buch, Goodrow was the worst forward on a good team, and Tinordi and Reaves are sub replacement level players.

The Rangers were building something that looked promising and still may well be but ironically they’ve become far less intimidating this off-season despite adding all the tuffness.

I really wonder if Rangers fans liking these moves really want these players on the ice v the Caps 1st line? Ovechkin is going to eat them alive. What I think is that Hathaway is going to have his hands full.

Are we sure we dont want any defensemen that have a physical side to their game?

LMAO let's just scratch him for every game against them to really rub in that they are going to fill their a quarter of their roster with talentless slow plugs just for one player... who we might just decide to not play.

In all seriousness, they might end up icing the slowest team ever assembled.

This cannot be emphasized enough. We joke about how Tom Wilson destroyed their franchise... but he really did set it back years.

They were close to being scary on the slow and steady rebuild. This offseason they got markedly worse in an effort to up the physicality and combat one singular player (which, by the way, it's not like there aren't a million other ways to neutralize Tom Wilson, he too is part of the team that has playoff ineptitude these last few years.)

They fired their GM and coach. They jettisoned Buchnevich (and remember Buch was the guy this all started over) for a bottom 6 player, they're not going to land Eichel, they've made no moves to upgrade their scoring, they've clogged up their pipelines with slow and skill deficient players.

Me watching the Rangers:

Yeah, for all the complaints about the Caps' team speed, the Rangers are going to make us seem like Colorado...

League is coming off of the bad heat from the Blackhawks and Canadiens, they're not going to put up with this shit on opening night, Rangers would be smart to wait until a midseason game... but they won't.

People (and apparently Chis Drury for that matter) don't understand that the thing that makes Tom Wilson (and for a long time Ovechkin) impossible to really catch with a dirty hit is not that every other player is playing by a morally superior code, it's that they can't be caught.

Wilson is an insanely unique player because he isn't just a Mack Truck coming through, but he's amazingly fast and agile for that size. Again, NYR is just making insane choice after insane choice. We lost to BOS in 5 games, we're old as shit, why would you burn your rebuild to the ground to match our team when we might not even make the playoffs?

Rangers picking up Reaves fully knowing he's going to hand the Caps PP's, helping Ovi with his chase at Gretzky's record. All class that organization is.
I was looking at it more so as a culinary scholarship. Reeves has been granted to the benefits of being able to taste the amazing St. Louis BBQ in the press box, stuff himself with Primanti Brothers in the Pitt press box, enjoy the buffet in the Vegas press box, and now taste some of that word class New York cuisine in the Rangers press box.

Remember everyone: Chris Drury is one of the 32 most qualified people in the world for his job, and he didn’t get the job because he just happened to be a former player for the team.

There is a logic in everything he is doing. Us mere mortals just can’t comprehend it.

Trust The Process!

That’s not true. They painted themselves into a corner over the span of several years, and the moves that have been by far the most harmful to their success have been the same type of moves you’re lauding the Capitals for (giving huge contracts to the star players that helped them achieve their success). They didn’t just up and decide after they won to start tanking. Chicago is bad because of the cap hell that the Toews, Kane, Keith, Hossa, and Seabrook contracts put them in.
Yes and no, but in my opinion it’s mostly no. Seabrook was one player too many and was never going to be worth his dollar value, that one was pretty obvious when it happened.

the rest of it, though…. That’s a core. They did just fine keeping them, and it wasn’t what ruined them. It was what they did from, like, 2014 on. The Saad/Panarin double switcheroo, hemorrhaging assets in the process, and burning the bridge that should have linked two eras of the franchise. They absolutely gutted the generation of the team they would need performance from to remain competitive (see:foundation) and then had to sell off their most valuable non-core assets to reset.

their plan never looked like a plan by that point, it was just a series of moves that, by the end of it, left them in a worse place without much to show for it. I think you could give GMBM the reigns in 2012 or whatever and they’d have been better off, certainly no worse, if the philosophies stayed the same.
