How do people see his future after this contract is done? What if Leafs do not advance past 1st round in playoffs this season?

He has 1 year left after this season, but do Toronto re-sign him or do they move on? Right now he is paid league average for a starting goaltender, but 3½ years ago the average was way lower, only being beaten by Holtby and Price and a couple of others. Can they afford him and what do they have to sacrifice to do so?

I guess it depends on whats on the market at that time. Who is available and at what price. Personally Im not sure Andersen and Toronto is the right fit either. This being said 3½ years into his contract, you would have expected things to turn out right or wrong. I know its not all that black and white, but I havent seen any improvement in Andersens play the last two seasons, so maybe this is just his ceiling.

Hopefully sign an up and comer that puts Fred on notice. Wait and see how that works out (if the new guy progresses). If Fred is a part of playoff success(should they get there) then make the offer to extend. Even if his regular season numbers end up being great,he still needs playoff success to be worthy of a serious offer.

Would like to see about a months worth of good play before claiming he is 'back'. He did make a couple really nice stops ,however,Preds missed several open net opportunities last game.Which would have changed that headline. Fred ,being as big as he is should not be exposing so much net to shooters. Even the above picture shows (inexplicably) how he seemingly tries to make himself small...I don't like his 'style' I guess. Anyway,i truly hope he gets confident!

Reading 101....'part of the meltdown'...and if you actually watched ,there is no way you can ignore the visibly rattled Fred.

LOL, so you can see through a mask from a camera shot 500 feet away and tell he is "visibly rattled".. so what are the tell tale signs he is visibly rattled? Is it the stoic look on his face that never changes?

For F-sakes people perhaps we can stop, as a fan base, thinking we know everything about everyone just because a thought passes through our brain?

This is a great argument against your position. Winnipeg's defense is way worse than Toronto's, and Hellebuyck is still performing better than Andersen

Hellebyuck sucked last year, notice that? He was just very hot in the beginning of the season, and the Jets have started to play a much more conservative game than they used to, and what the Leafs play.

In the last 18 games Hellebyuck is 89,3%

Well, true. And Winnipeg is 2nd last in the league over the last 18 games because Hellebuyck was keeping the team afloat. Andersen has been comparable over that stretch of games, and Leafs are still 6th best

I don't blame this on Freddy's rustiness. He was this bad before the injury too. He costed this team 2 points again.

He also allowed the first shot to beat him in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd period which was the difference seeing as the final score was 3-2. The only one of those shots which he had no chance on was Seguin's power play goal in the 3rd, however I can't remember the last time Andersen or any Leafs Goalie had that happen to them.

Andersen's a suck. He's coming off an injury with Campbell playing well and he let's in the first shot of the game. 3 goals against on 19 shots at home. If you're not ready to play, take more time. If you're ready to play, be ready to f'ing play. T

he bigger the game situation, the more I expect Andersen to bend and break. The guy has no sense of occasion and doesn't know how to battle when uncomfortable. I am pretty sure Campbell is going to mount a legit challenge to his job with 1.5 years left on that contract.

Well Campbell better as there is no other option at present.

Andersen is like a Chris Osgood type goalie who can be carried by a great team. But he's so disappointing as the supposed 'backbone' of the team allowing the first shot on goal against on MULTIPLE occasions and always seemingly finding the excuse to lose as opposed to carrying the team when they need the boost. That feeling from the Boston meltdown game in 2018 and the flat out stinker in 2019. There's always a whiff of that.

I think that''s why it was so refreshing to see a guy like Campbell come in and speak to his defensemen, give them the boost and take personal ownership. To see a guy who will battle. Not always win, but he's not a finicky athlete who needs optimal conditions to succeed.

You could drive a mack truck through his five hole this year. I don't know what happened but it's never been this bad. In the past I'd say his glove was his weakness but, this year he's let a lot of pucks through there. I think it's more than technique though, he's just not mentally there.

Maybe years of facing some of the highest volume of shots in the league has finally broken him.
