No good reason to believe that he's not best served playing as THE GUY for Rimouski this year.

Nah. Nonis today said the most likely Marlies/prospects to make the roster out of camp are Leivo, Broll, Carrick, Granberg and Percy.

Could he crack the roster this year?

Fill in the roster with Holland,Frattin,Ashton ok.
But it might be a good idea to leave players like Gauthier,Nylander etc off this roster in case it's a crap show up here.

As a relative latecomer to hockey, he had only played ONE year of junior before being drafted.

Now that he has 2 years under his belt, it makes it all the more important that Gauthier who is a physical behemoth able to easily dominate others w/ his size & strength gets a change to go through the proper rigours of development given that most of his peers have at least one & in some cases 2 extra year of junior under their belt.

A player like him will benefit hugely from another year in junior (as some said to develop his offence), crack the WJC Team again & finish off the season w/ a junior contender &/or Marlies.

In short he is not the answer to our C problems this season. I'd say he needs 2 more seasons.

Sign Ott in the meantime ;)

I think alot of people ate going to be really surprised at training camp.
My uncle is a cross country trucker and knows his family.
They all say he has gotten way bigger like 20 plus pounds and a lil taller.
He is coming to camp to take a shut down role.

I dont believe he is going to be our crosby but he is huge and plays fantastic shut down d.
I think we could do worse than having a hulking d specialist that really wants to play.

Coming from someone who's watched him play dozens of games , he's not ready. Another year of junior , especially playing a key role on a contending Rimouski squad is best for his development. I personally think he'll play this season in Rimouski and a year in the AHL before being able to make the jump. He has the tools to be a solid 3rd liner but has to bring them together. This year is crucial.

And Marlies are not an option this season since he's 19 years old.

Would rather see him back in junior and let Holland and someone like Fiddler fight for the #3 and #4 centre spots.

ahh. Well he didn't dominate in the OHL so I really don't see him beating out Holland for 3rd line center. Kid won't be in the NHL for another 2yrs.

Good thing he didn't dominate the OHL... He plays for Rimouski.

One more year in the Q will be beneficial to him.

I'd rather keep him down for longer to try and develop his offensive skills.

It's not like we desperately need him up at the moment.

Only 2? Imo he will need at least 2 with the Marlies, so 3+ before he challenges for an NHL spot.

As some have mentioned, being 'the guy' for Rimouski this year should give him a chance to really show what he can do offensively. Hopefully when he makes Team Canada for the WJC, it will be as more than just the 4th line, defensive + faceoff specialist.

I dont really understand eveyone saying a player can be ruined.
Ive played at various levels of hockey and i always found that good players find a way to up their skill to compete with whatever talent level they are playing in.
So playing him with the best possible line mates with the best coaches and trainers isnt as good as playing against inferior talent?
Good player hack it and stay.
If he deserves a spot he should get one.
Im sick of the he has to earn it blah blah dont burn a contract yr and such

He won't be playing with the best possible linemates on this team. He'll be playing with the worst possible linemates because we have no one on the 4th line

There's absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be on the leafs roster next season. He's physically and defensively NHL ready. Leaving him in the Q and A won't spark on offensive side.

Fourth Line: Ashton Gauthier Carrick

Ashton and Carrick 8 minutes a night will? There is absolutely no reason to have him in the NHL right now. None. Carrick is a center, Mckegg is a center, Holland is a center.

Carrick played RW for half the season and the playoffs.

Didn't post about: Mckegg or Holland

Here are the lines I have penciled if we went in with the forward group we have TODAY.

Kessel-Bozak-JVR
Nylander-Kadri-Lupul
Clarkson-Gauthier-Frattin
Komarov-Holland-Orr/Mclaren/Broll/Devane

I think Gauthier will play this season, and so will William

Sure, let's push our top prospects right into the fire. It's never failed before, right?

I completely forgot about him. I think he spends another year or two in the minors.

Not yet. He should play with Rimouski for one more year, compete in the world juniors again, and then I'd say he'd be ready for next year. Big guys like Gauthier need more time before cracking the show. He will be good, just not right now.

And Nylander should be in Sweden again this season.

He is too slow right now.

Has NHL size, and of course is defensively smart, but he is still just a kid with 2 years of Major junior experience. We would also stifle any potential offensive development
