perfect example of sophistry.

you discount granlund's "good" statistical season where he scored 19 nhl goals and claim he has been no better than a waiver pick up.

Brandon Pirri once scored 22 goals in 49 games and followed that up with 11 in 52. That made him so valueable he got dealt for a 6th rounder.

Scoring some goals is nice but you have to see the context. In the 16-17 season he benefitted from good icetime and linemates as well as an unsustainable shooting percentage (~50% above his career average). While in that season he may have been better than the regular waiver pick up, he wasnt anything special. A Reid Boucher for example would not have been much of a downgrade had he played in the same role. Then last season Granlund bombed and should have been waived. The Canucks absolutely gained nothing from the trade, even with the 19 goals in 2017, they ended up a bottom feeder, last season he didnt make a lick of a difference. Had the Canucks picked up a Pulkkinen from waivers or played Boucher or whoever in that role, they still wouldnt have finished any worse

you are reaching anytime you bring up pirri as an example of what is typically out their in hockey. that trade is a complete outlier. people here were advocating pirri as worth a lot more than a 6th not long before his precipitous dumping. then anaheim subsequently passed on his rfa rights.

pirri's market value drop is certainly mysterious. a suspicious person might suspect there was an off ice reason.

I'd like to see one more year of Bieksa in Vancouver.

We're not doing anything next year in terms of winning, why not bring in a character guy like him for a year and let him retire here?

Sure, he's awful, but so are the Canucks, lol.

We already have 8 Dmen signed that are expected to be on the Canucks roster.

They are better off signing Cody Franson to replace Wiercioch in Utica.

Bieksa is currently going through that awkward stage every player goes through where he can't play anymore and everyone realizes it but him. Whether he catches on somewhere on a low dollar one year deal or sits the year out we should be hearing a retirement announcement by sometime next summer.

Bieksa was always a good Canuck, even once he declined he managed to return the Canucks a decent return. Always enjoyed him and his demeanor, would take a Bieksa Clone on this team in a heartbeat

I don't have a problem with him as a depth signing; problem is, Benning already has built a blueline full of bottom pairing/depth guys (just zero top 4 D other than the two he inherited). Wouldn't surprise me if he signed Sbisa to a contract.

I want to see Bieksa sign with the Oilers. He is no longer an NHL defenseman (though he had excellent PK numbers last year, as I recall) and Oilers fans just hate him. It would be worth it to me to see their frustration.

Wow! Since Sekaras went down the Oilers are really scraping the bottom of the bargain bin with Garrison, who couldn't get on the ice last year with Vegas. And speaking of Vegas, Luca Sbisa is still looking for work. If the Oilers are in the market for depth d-men, they could do far worse.

Far worse. Than Luca Sbisa. Really?

Sbisa is and always has been a turn over machine.

19-26 year old Gudbranson seems to be a clone of 37 year old Bieksa
