It sounds like he thinks he has a shot to make the Flyers. I wonder if that's just him being hopeful or if Hextall made him think it's possible.

I don't see how...it makes too much sense for him to run the defense for the Phantoms

Provorov

Unless of course there's a trade. I'd honestly be pissed if he made it instead of Provorov

Don't forget Brandon Manning!

But yeah, only way I'd be OK with giving Brennan a shot would be if we moved Streit.

Lamarche and Pettersson spent some time in the ECHL last season, so if MacD did clear waivers he'd be the 8th D-man on the roster
Morin-Alt
Sanheim-Brennan
O'Neill-Hagg
7th Willcox or Lamarche 8th MacD

ECHL: Lamarche and Pettersson or Willcox and Pettersson
1st call up would be Alt or Brennan. No rush on Morin or Sanheim

MacDonald wouldn't be the 8th defensemen on the Phantoms if he got sent down again. I'd imagine with this move it's a good indicator he won't be going back down this year.

If he cant make the 15-16 Leafs, he sure as **** isnt making the 16-17 Flyers

Just reading different quotes it sounds like it's more of the former. I seen one quote where he said he knows he really has work cut out for him to make the Flyers.

Hextall signed Brennan to be on the 1st or 2nd pair defense in the AHL, and to bluff Manning into signing a NHL contract 700k or below before Manning reaches the arbitration hearing date.

Manning's thinking, did Hextall just sign Brennan to take my spot on the flyers roster if negotiations go south.

Watched him for years here in Rochester when i had Amerks season tickets.

He has an unbelievable shot from the point. Just absolute laser and is a great PP QB.

His problem is his decision making and D zone coverage. Its the one thing holding him back from being an NHL regular. Stick him with a stay at home guy though and he will flourish

He's a nightmare at exiting the defensive zone. Be prepared for plenty of giveaways. You guys will love him but there are many times you will hate him. Having watched him on the Marlies these past few years, I wish him the best. He's also a perennial favourite for the Eddie Shore award. He's also a PP specialist so the Phantoms PP will definitely improve.

He also played centre for a few games this past season and was OK. Watching him play defence, I wonder why he doesn't just play forward sometimes. I know it sounds like I'm bashing him but, I'm not, I really liked him on the Marlies and wished he would have stayed.

Trust me, you don't want him anywhere near an NHL defence. He doesn't have NHL speed and he'll go from a loved AHL defender to a despised NHL defender. He is a career AHLer and a great one at that. In his short stint(s) with the Leafs, he was probably their worst defenceman. Do not wish for him to be called up unless you aren't that attached to your hair.:)

Do we have the right to turn down an arbitration offer and release a player instead ?

You can walk away from it, or, because the Flyers have at least two players going to arbitration, get a second buyout period.

Lehigh Valley had a respectable season, TJ Brennan gives them a chance to win, plus he should serve as a good role model for the Flyers' prospective dmen down on the farm. Nothing to get excited about from the Flyers' front, but it should give the young guys a chance to play for a winning team, which should boost their confidence.

Philly could just waive Manning. Then demote him to ECHL just for being an ungrateful SOB. The fact that he got to earn an NHL salary last year, he should be thanking his lucky stars.

So to make it clear... If the team have at least 2 players going into arbitration, the team can walk away from any award (no matter what's the amount) and the player becomes UFA. I am trying to clarify because I heard that if the award is lower than 3.5M the team can not walk away.

The Phantoms' blueline is getting pretty crowded.

I'd rather like to see Sanheim being given every chance to dominate and have Hagg and Morin take more responsibilities.
Now Brennan and O'Neil will get a lot of the OZ starts and PP time, Willcox possibly being demoted to Reading.

I understand the kids have to earn playing time but will they be given a fair chance? Last year Drewiske was garbage but still playing.

That's correct, except it's higher than $3.5m because it's linked to the NHL average salary.

It won't affect the Flyers because only Schenn will get more than that and they won't walk away from him.
