Thought I'd start a pre game thread to discuss what the Oilers need to accomplish against the visiting Flyers. As many of you know, I've been a Flyer fan for a long time, as well as the Oilers. Since certain changes in the NHL have limited my ability to follow the Flyers for some time now, I am no longer very privy to the team and its workings, except for on a casual basis.

So if anyone has some nuggets of info they want to share regarding both teams, and what either has to do to win, please do.

It would be a bonus to have some positive feedback and proper critque of the Oil as well. There's enough negativity going around for everyone I think.

BTW: Hallsy was named 3rd star of the week in the NHL.

Two teams with a good offence and terrible defence. I think Edmonton and Philly are the two worst defensive teams in the NHL.

If we lose this game, season is over at the beginning of November.

Tighten up on defense. I hope we keep them to 3 or fewer goals.

Get McDavid going. He needs a multipoint game again.

I believe this is the Oilers' 3rd opponent in a row that is coming off of a back to back
It's time to take advantage of these tired teams right off the bat instead of digging themselves a hole early on in the game.

Taylor Hall is playing some of the best hockey I've seen him play the past couple games. Add that to Yakupovs play for the few games before that and I think we may have a pretty good coach.

Davidson and Nurse need to keep it up and Klefbom needs to get better. Sekera is a mystery. Ference and Gryba should probably sit, if possible.

My question is sit Talbot or give him another shot?

Our d-men have to pay close attention to what they're doing in their own zone so that our goalie doesn't feel that he's the only line of defence.

Our forwards need to be good on the backcheck so that our d-men can do a decent job of protecting the zone.

Goalie needs to give us a chance to win. Can't spot the opposition 3 goals in the first.

2 scoring lines need to continue to produce.

Team needs to avoid any more injuries.

Talbot has started 4 in a row, and the last one was less than stellar. I'd be shocked if Nilsson isn't in tomorrow(I thought he'd play Saturday personally).

They should have played Nilsson vs the Flames but part of me wants to go back to Talbot after the crappy last game.

Ference must be scratched.

Talbot needs to be better.

Ference must be scratched.

Reinhart should play.

Ference must be scratched.

Lander needs to get his head out of his ass.

Something could be said about Gryba and Purcell, as well.

As many have indicated. Ference should not step foot on the ice. We need to get a goal out of our bottom 6. Talbot has to eliminate all weak goals.

We need our good players to play good and our dead weight to keep their heads out of their ass long enough to not lose the game.

I'd start Nilsson. Hasn't played since a tough outing against Dallas but frankly Talbot has been no great shakes since.

I'd also send Slepy down and call up Khaira who is supposedly playing some very good hockey for the Condors.

Fayne in for Ference would be a start...

I'd rather a disapointment than a tire-fire at this point.

Nurse-Sekera
Klefbom-Fayne
Davidson-Gyrba

Please? :puppy:

I'm hoping Reinhart is ready. Hendricks coming back would help a lot as well. This would be my ideal lineup for next game if both are back

Hall - RNH - Drai
Pouliot - McDavid - Yak
Korpikoski - Hendricks - Lander
Sleps - Letestu - Purcell

Nurse - Sekera
Klefbom - Reinhart
Davidson - Fayne

Nilsson

When VandeVelde has more goals than Voracek after 10 games... you know your team is off to a slow start offensively (3rd fewest goals scored in the league behind anemic TO and the quackless Ducks).

They are certainly a beatable team for the Oilers... but like most games this season, the outcome will likely be dependent on whether the Oilers give the game away with their defensive lapses.

Gryba definitely shouldnt be paired with Ference, that pairing was just horrid on Saturday. That problem is fixed if you scratch Ference as was suggested.

I dont mind Purcell as a 4th line powerplay specialist but he shouldnt see many regular shifts especially starting in our own zone. He doesnt move the puck well enough to help with zone exits.

I think our d next game will be

Nurse - Sekera
Klefbom - Fayne
Reinhart - Davidson

Gryba sits and we use Davidson to qb the 2nd pp
