The Flyers would like to add a defensive-minded forward, GM Ron Hextall told Dave Isaac of the Cherry Hill Courier-Post. However, at this time, he acknowledged that the addition would need to come in the form of a trade and not via free agency:

“I’m open to it, but it would probably be more of a lateral move on the market rather than a free agent. It would be a forward. We’d like to add a penalty-killing forward but to this point there’s been nothing there that’s made enough sense for us to move.”

Part I: Pre-training camp Q&A with Flyers GM Ron Hextall

Johan Larsson will probably shake loose if any of Buffalo's Rochester players have a good training camp.

Over Hakstol and Laperriere's tenure, they've sparingly used their best penalty killing winger, Michael Raffl, on the penalty kill. However, they had no problem replacing Konecny with him on the (red hot) first line heading into the playoffs because they wanted a "heavier" player who could play along the boards.

Attempting to explain such idiocy is futile.

Paul Byron for a 1st right now. You get him for a full year instead of getting into a bidding war at TDL and getting him for a 1st anyway but just for a couple games and the playoff.
That's where Hextall probably hangs up the phone. You can get top line upcoming UFA's for a first round pick++ if they don't re-sign like Wheeler,Seguin or Panarin and a bunch of others. Right now the list of UFA's for next summer is pretty stacked as well as rentals this upcoming season near the deadline.

Brendan Sutter would be a perfect fit. He is an excellent pk/faceoff guy.

4.6 mill and not a rental.

As Canucks fan, I would be fine with a 2nd rounder and b level prospect.

The coaches are the problem here.

But if you need pkers....

Oilers will happily give you a package of Brodziak and Upshall for your next 5 1st rounders!

No? Ok, was worth a shot.

Byron have nice stats but that doesn’t change the fact that he would play on the fourth line behind ;

Giroux
JVR
Lindblom

You might get a first for him but only if you target the right team.
