What really stings is that we were 3rd last at one point, if we'd just tanked and stayed there or even 4th last, we'd have had the choice of Jones or Nichuskin....
Not tanking really hurt, as good as Morin's going to be three years from now, it would be nice to roll out Jones on D this year....
Nichushkin might have made a difference, but something tells me he might be a 20 to 30 point forward in Dallas. If Nichushkin were drafted by the Flyers, there's no way that he bounces Voracek or Schenn from one of the top two lines. He'd be playing on the third line at 12 to 14 minutes a night. People would be claiming it's a waste.
As for Jones, I'm just not sold on him. He's a late 1994 player who had nearly a year's worth of physical development on Morin. Let's see what Morin's 18 year old season is like compared to Jones' 18 year old season. If Morin puts up a 35 to 40 point season while excelling as a premier shut down defensemen, then I don't think the gap is as big as others have made it out to be.
I also think Morin is the perfect test for the Flyers development plan. We all know that they're good at developing forwards. Let's see how well they do when it comes to developing defensemen who have a ton of upside, but are very raw. Morin is the perfect challenge for the Flyers. Of course, everyone knows I was rooting for Morrissey, but I'm growing to like the Morin pick more and more.
