It buys up UFA years - did you expect any different? It's a tad high but when UFA hits he could see a 4m paycheque from an NHL team. Unless you wanted him to walk in a year this is a fair contract. And unless more severe injuries hit, he should become a highly tradable asset in 2 seasons' time with that contract.

He's basically a younger Stajan, getting paid similar money for the services he's able to provide.

3.575m is a great deal imo the 2015 salary cap was 73m averaging out to 3.17m/player on a 23 man squad paying him 0.405m more then the average money per player is a great deal for a young shutdown center
