Wonder if an NJ/CGY/LA three way could work.

Just the general framework here, deal could be a lot bigger to include Holtz or some of the other NJ extras like Nosek, Miller, Smith. Likewise, maybe there’s someone more desirable from LA to CGY than Kaliyev.

To NJ: Markstrom
To LAK: Toffoli (75% Retention)
To CGY: Kaliyev + 1st

Small pieces to balance it out if need be, but the trade would break down, per team like this:

NJ: Toffoli (50% retention) for Markstrom
LAK: Kaliyev + 1st for Toffoli @ 25%
CGY: Markstrom + 25% Toffoli for Kaliyev + 1st

Honest question: how reliable is Weekes.

Wasn't he way off on the Guentzel signing?
When he says something is done, it's done.

When he says he's hearing something, it's something that he's hearing that isn't guaranteed to go through.

There are way too many posters here that think that if an insider isn't 100% right, they're 100% wrong.

Seems very unlikely that Kaliyev and a 1st is enough for Flames ownership to greenlight this deal.

I really think it's going to take a deal that ownership can't say no to.

Why do you think Dawson Mercer is Bettlejuice and by mentioning him consistently that it'll happen? You keep mentioning his name in every thread there's a remote NJ/CGY rumor
Just mentioning him because by all reports he is the player the Flames said they need for any Markstrom trade involving the Devils.

NJ isn't moving Mercer in a Markstrom trade, lmao. He was off limits in a WPG trade with Hellebuyck last year, which in hindsight, we'd probably do right now. But he for sure isn't going for Markstrom. Would be an abject failure from Fitz. It was Holtz + for a retained Markstrom a couple of weeks ago. Not sure how Markstrom without retention earns Mercer.

Dreger said the Flames ask was Mercer + a high pick. If the Devils think they can sneak in with Meier getting healthy and Tampa collapsing, they might get desperate.

NJ is balking at this, why would the price get higher without retention? That makes no sense in the world unless Fitz is a moron

Lmao picking Dawson Mercer over Connor Hellebuyck certainly is a decision.

Last year, he was coming off an absurd year and the Devils thought he'd be on pace for 25-30 goals again on an ELC which would've been gold for us. He's legitimately fell off the face of the earth this year. Selling him low would be bad is all.

No he didn't. He said that's what he thinks it would take and even said if Calgary asks too much NJ could walk away, but he believes Fitz is willing to do almost anything.
