Btw here is the Gakpo incident

But again without Gakpo putting the ball in the net there isn’t a “smoking gun” here.

Taylor was god awful today though, but that’s not why LFC dropped points. Since Curtis Jones got that ridiculous red card, I have seen so many worse fouls get no card including todays

it’s pretty straight forward. He called a foul but played advantage because the keeper had the ball and he thought the keeper would be able to get up without issue. He waved the keeper on as if you say “yea feel free to continue” but the keeper didn’t so he blew the play dead.

Also it wouldn’t have mattered if Gakpo put the ball in the net or not, the whistle went before he could get to the ball.

Should the ref have went back and called the foul given how long between the advantage and him actually blowing play dead? Probably not, but he’s also trying to avoid having the trainers come out and waste more game time.

No. I don’t buy this. If the goal is not to waste time that’s not how this should have played out. If the concern is time wasting you don’t let Areola fake the injury

Not saying it counts as a goal if Gakpo puts the ball in the net, but that at least forces the issue and highlights the idiocy here. It’s similar to the incident in the Bayern/Arsenal first leg.

That’s a live ball and Areola isn’t showing any signs he is hurt until Gakpo is running up. There no foul so there is no advantage being played. There’s no whistle.

United lead United in Newcastle.

Antonyy could have two already. An actually good corner set play first and that throughball. Godd first touch, just wide,

Areola literally is grabbing at his leg as soon as he grabs the ball and it's why he takes so long to get up.

Also Taylor was very clearly signaling advantage as he runs back towards midfield.

He’s fixing his sock. There is no whistle.

And for the clueless wondering why Casemiro is playing at CB:

Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelöf, Lisandro Martínez, Willy Kambwala and Raphaël Varane ruled out. Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford doubtful.

Lindelöf and Martinez should return to training next week.

Onana with a couple of big saves. Burnley playing well, United are on the pitch too.

Berge lucky he got a toenail on the ball in the box.
