Great goal, tic-tac-toe again! Bärtschi passes it to Granlund who wristes a bullet, nice shot!

Not surprised at all that Ortio has been so good. He has developed more and more and I think that next season he will be starting goalie in AHL at least.

Today's scrimmage's best forwards IMO were Granlund, Bärtschi, Monahan and Knight, also Gaudreau was of course fine again. Granlund released one hell of a snipe from Bärtschi's pass and even before that goal he played well. Bärtschi's playing looks easy, his got great wheels. Monahan was good at face offs and he played strong 2-way game. Knight was hard worker who drived into the net and made bunch of scoring chances.

But goalies played really well, well maybe Berra wasn't at his best in that 4-1 goal.

From defenders I was very satisfied to see Kanzig's playing. He skates pretty well, better than I expected and he doesn't shame to shoot the puck. Also Sieloff was very nice, you just don't enjoy playing against a player like him, even if you were at the training camp and could play some day at the same NHL-team.

Hm. I starting to wonder about my devotion levels here. Bunch of the prospects just walked by and I'm pretty sure a couple of them gave me a "WTF" look for sitting by myself in the stands a half hour early.

Looks like they might only be hour long sessions today. I could be wrong but that's definitely the feeling I got. I'll hold off on posting just in case.

Yep here comes group B. So here is group A notes. Shorter since there was less material.

Group A day four

91 - Acciari, Noel - C

40 - Berra, Reto - G didn't get to see much of him today.

75 - Carroll, Austin - RW - he's got some speed on the straight away.

67 - Culkin, Ryan - LD absolutely destroyed horak along the boards 1 on 1 entering the zone. Best defenseman by far on the 1 on 1 drills. Nobody got more than a weak backhand off when they faced him. He faced a lot of the big guns too.

95 - DeBlouw, Matt - C

79 - Ferland, Michael - LW - bit of an amusing character at times. Laser wrister. He's noticeably quicker today too. Had a noticeably long chat with one of the coaches afterwards.

53 - Gaudreau, Johnny - LW - sick edge control on the deke drills. Those spins, he's definitely got some spin o ramas in his skill set. Nice goal when the goalie was screened. Pulled out a lot of moves on the half court drill but ran out of room more often than not.

82 - Gillies, Jon - G had some excellent saves on the half court drills. Those were really rough on the goalies.

83 - Gilmour, John - LD did a decent job defending on the 1 on 1's. was paired against Harrison?

58 - Hanowski, Ben - RW - I know it's been said but Hanowski looks so noticeably faster and more agile. Nice backhand goal on Gilles. Also had a good half court session.

97 - Harrison, Tim - RW - an excellent job in the gritty drills today.

70 - Hoffman, Brody - G - probably his best day so far.

21 - Horak, Roman - C - Scorak finally showed up. 2 on 2 half court he just dominated.

64 - Howse, Ryan - RW - outside of one hard shot I failed to notice him.

52 - Klimchuk, Morgan - LW - beauty drag wait goal on Berra. Nice speed blowing by the D.another nice goal dekeing out both Berra and Roy. Was an amazing team with horak on the 2 on 2 half court. Was just awesome in general.

10 - Knight, Corban - C - he's gonna get some goals based purely on determination and grit. Stayed after to do face off drills.

98 - Leonard, Curtis - LD

78 - Lewis, Trey - LD

68 - Martin, James - LD I'm continuously confused at how he can show such skills in the drills and then not play well later on.

23 - Monahan, Sean - C - noticed him more defensively than offensively today in the drills. Stayed to do face offs after.

74 - Padakin, Pavlo - RW

84 - Roy, Eric - LD - nice goal on Berra, did better defensively today.

90 - Van Brabrant, Bryce - LW - did face off drills after. Odd.

Starting to really see a bit of a gap in the skating and dekeing drills today. Top end guys its easy, and some if the invites or super late picks stumble a tad more on the complicated ones.

It's amusing how much faster Gelinas can get them to go when he's whacking the ice so hard.

Horak and Klimmie cleaned up on the 2 on 2 half court game.

Group B day four

94 - Agostino, Kenny - LW grit grit and more grit. Beat Ortio clean with no dekes. Attempted a between the legs goal but hit the post.

92 - Arnold, Bill - C great speed and shooting. Great 5 hole goal during 2 on 2

47 - Baertschi, Sven - LW I know I've said it before but man can he turn on a dime. Snipe on Brossoit, far corner. Made a ton of pretty moves playing with Jooris on the 2 on 2's

1 - Brossoit, Laurent - G on the far side. Scored on Ortio lol.

45 - Eddy, David - RW

65 - Elson, Turner - LW

62 - Gordon, Coda - RW nice drop pass

60 - Granlund, Markus - C good rebound goal. Two goals in about ten seconds during the 2 on 2

77 - Jankowski, Mark - C took a deflection from Ortio off the head poor guy. No worse for wear. And now plowed into the post. Poor Djanko.

86 - Jooris, Josh - C beat Kulak for a nice goal. Two very nice goals when he played with sven 2 on 2

73 - Kanzig, Keegan - LD got beaten cleanly by Granlund when he tried to skate backwards in a race 1 on 1. Did much better against Bart.

61 - Kulak, Brett - LD had a rough start but got better. Got a goal from his knees.

63 - MacKenzie, Drew - RD ran into the coach on the dekeing drill. Amusing. Having his best day so far IMO. Still not great though.

96 - O'Donoghue, Dan - C

37 - Ortio, Joni - G looked pretty good on the 3 on 0's. absolutely robbed Sieloff.

93 - Penner, Linden - RW

57 - Poirier, Emile - RW had a very pretty goal after beating eddy 1 on 1 and then did a beat Ortio with a great deke. Did some phenomenal stuff during the half court session too. Probably his best day overall.

49 - Ramage, John - RD not the fleetest of foot. Not slow, but just average speed. Did good 1 on 1's. had a beauty deke n Brossoit.

59 - Reinhart, Max - C he's skating today. Interesting. Skated with the coaches on the 3 on 0's. I think it's because they had the guys teamed up earlier when he wasn't playing. Very nearly picked the corner, got it inside of joint weld short side.

50 - Sieloff, Patrick - LD Skated well today. He's gonna draw a lot of penalties with his grabbing and hooking. You could tell guys didn't want to face him 1 on 1. God he's a dick. Drives Penner into the net and then gives him a little shove to the head once he's in there. Finishes a meaningless check hard on Djanko. Guy behind me is just ranting about Sieloffs skating being brutal. Full of ****. Skates perfectly okay, he just skates with a low Center of gravity.

56 - Wotherspoon, Tyler - LD so good defensively on the 1 on 1's.

Bartschi, Granlund and Reinhart all stayed after working on trick and skill shots. Some pretty cool stuff.

I finally gave in and did some autograph hunting. Got Bartschi, Granlund, Reinhart, Brossoit, Kanzig, Jankowski and Poirier :)

Another great scouting report Fl. Fanatic!

Glad to hear that Horak decided to show up, and that Reinhart is back on his feet.

Who do you think has the best chances of making the big squad so far?

Have Johnny and Janko beefed up much?

Jankowski has put on almost twenty pounds despite growing another 2 and a half inches. He's at 6'3+1/2" and about 180 I believe.

Gaudreau has bulked up, but I've yet to hear any actual figures thrown out there. Noticeable increase, especially outside of his gear in plainclothes. I'll try to ask him if/while I'm getting his autograph in the next two days.

My pleasure.

The Big Guys:

I will be quite surprised if Knight doesn't make the team. Bartschi obviously makes it.

Horak offensively I think has the skills, but I question whether or not to play a role that isn't in the top six. He's got a hell of a shot, and some pretty good wheels. It's hard to tell from practices though if he can play defensively, and from a physical perspective, he hasn't avoided physical contact, but compared to most of the other prospects, he initiates it less. I also haven't seen as much passing from him as I thought he would have. I remember when we acquired him from the Rangers everyone was gushing about how he was Howse's setup man in Chiliwack during his 50 goal year.

Monahan could, I think, based solely on his two way play. Whether or not it's good for his development, I don't know, but personally I lean towards no. I don't want to Filatov/Connelly/etc. his development.

Reinhart is a bit iffy simply because I haven't been able to see him till today, and he looked visibly frustrated at times. I think similar to Monahan he probably could make the team if needed, but it's not best for his development. I'd rather he spend some time in Abbotsford as their #1 center and try to develop his offensive game at the next level, as his work ethic and defensive aptitude is unquestioned.

Berra as I've said a couple times may surprise in camp. He's not perfect, but has an excellent rebound control, and when he does have to scramble to make a save, it seems he does it well.

Outside Shots

I think of all the guys that could sneak in as our extra forward, it probably goes to Hanowski. He's so much faster and involved in the play than he was in his brief stint. Grit and determination are a big part of his game, and I think he could do well in a bottom six role. Would be nice to see him try to develop his offense a bit in the AHL, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he made the team.

Arnold is another dark horse imo. Very similar traits to Hanowski, but super responsible defensively, and from what little I've seen, good on the faceoff dots as well. Could excel as a PK specialist in our bottom six even in his rookie season. I see a lot of Stephane Yelle or Chris Kelly in his game, but he has better hands.

Super super super long shot, but I think Granlund at least offensively is getting close. He needs to bulk up, and get some experience on North American ice, but I'm more convinced that he has NHL potential than I've ever been since we've drafted him. Could be a very good scoring winger, but I don't think he'll succeed as a center without some massive work.

Out of the invites, only four guys really stood out. Penner didn't really for me until the scrimmage yesterday, so I'm hesitant to say he's actually really good. Jooris has some speed, grit and a bit of offensive flair to his game that has only grown so far. Some of the stuff he was pulling off when paired with Bartschi during the 2 vs 2 half court drills today were very impressive. Lewis has stood out both in good and bad ways, but Conroy spoke well of him so who knows. Lastly is Padakin. He has some great hands, and some good speed. I wouldn't be surprised if they get invited to join the team for the prospect tourney later in the summer, or even some of them at least getting AHL deals.

Mooseheads fan here to give a fuller picture of Trey Lewis :)

Lewis played through a torn MCL for 9 games in this year's playoffs and is likely still recovering. He's not the fastest guy at the best of times, so I imagine he's looking really slow at camp.

While he's played well defensively for Halifax and has a pretty solid wrist shot, his biggest assets are the dreaded "intangibles" - leadership (he wore a "C" for the Moose this year), toughness (see: playing through a torn MCL), and a general willingness to take on absolutely anybody in defense of a teammate (see the video of him fighting 2 guys at once in retaliation for them taking a run at Zach Fucale). So his best stuff is the kind of stuff that just won't really translate in a development camp scenario.

He's a long shot to make the pros any way you slice it, but he's one of those guys who's so likeable, entertaining and well-respected that you hope he gets a good long look anyway. I think he's probably unlikely to get a pro offer this year simply because his skating is not good enough for a pro-level undersized defenseman. But if he can improve his speed over the course of this coming season he might get a decent look next year. That last bit might be the hopeful, selfish part of me talking, though, because he'd be a big loss to the Mooseheads if he makes the leap in what will be his overage year.

I have a question..

I believe King told Feaster that it's playoffs this coming season or Feaster's fired. Not trying to be a downer but I don't believe the 13-14 season will be too great. Will Feaster still be fired? And it's not fair to say that Feaster has drafted poorly. I actually think he'sa top 5 GM with what he had to work with in the last few years. I love the fact that we took a high school guy in the 1st round and got 3 first round picks this season. I also like that Sven hasn't played much in the NHL yet. Nothing worse than pushing a player in the NHL too soon and never getting there again. Think of a few years from now, Baerstchi, Granlund, Klimchuk, Jankowski, Poirier, Gaudreau, Monahan. A bunch of names few NHL fans know about now but in a few years they will. The question: Is it fair to say Feaster drafts poorly based on the fact that all picks are projects? And will King follow up on his words?
