If the Leafs want Ekblad then they have to out bid every other team out there. Florida is not trading him for a single more expensive asset when they have to cut budget either. It will be a package. You want Florida to listen then it starts here

AJ
KK
one of Lilj or Dermott
Robertson.

Yes all 4 and that is just the starting point both sides will add/adjust to make salary and picks fit. Even that is on the low end of what he is worth but that is what Florida would want to break up the core and cut payroll. I know Leaf fans are going to say its too much and Panther fans are going to say not enough but its the starting point not finishing point.
I’d rather do all 5 and add a couple of 1sts then Trade marner but as a leafs fan I’d accept your offer.

Completely delusional. That offer gets you blocked by Florida.

Nylander+ or Sandin + Robertson +. Certainly not a bunch of B level assets is getting you a Top pairing under 25 Dman.

Humored that anyone thinks it's Florida that adds in an Ekblad for Marner deal.
1st line winger does not equal #1 D-man. Then the Leafs pay a bit more to cover the reality they gave UFA money to an RFA they would now be trading.
Marner and either Sandin or Lilli (Panthers choice) may get it done.

wouldn’t they just do something like

Nylander for ekblad

and do some weird cap shenanigans so they would get ekblad June 30 and trade nylander July 1 so they pay all bonuses

FLA management would trade any piece on their roster for Marner just to fill seats alone.

When taking into account their contracts and scarcity of top pairing RD, Ekblad has more value than Barkov imo.
Funny how that changed, eh? A year ago Barkov was the most underrated player in hockey and Ekblad was an overpaid, underperforming 1OA with concussion issues.

Marner doesn't move unless it's for a slam-dunk, young 1st pair D-man without red flags. Ekblad's skating and injury history just don't cut it.

What are ya on about? One player, even Marner isn't gonna have fans in Florida show up, playoffs and getting past the 1st round consistently will.

If Ekblad and Barkov had the exact same amount of term on their deals, it becomes a more intense discussion.
If Florida fans had to move one, they would probably rather move Huberdeau out of those 3 as Barkov and Ekblad are the most important players on the team as the #1C and #1D.
If Huberdeau wants out then you could probably get a top 5-10 pick and young const controlled NHL player with upside. He has 3 full years left and has 265pts in his last 264 games aka 3+ years.

Throw whatever colored flags you want for Ekblad, he'd be the best defenseman on your Leafs and a fair bit of other teams as well. People can continue sleeping on the guy and say he's not a #1 D, not here to change your mind.
The stats back it up.
He's missed like 20 games in his 6 years and has missed 2 in the last three years.
Keep Marner, great player but Florida needs Ekblad more.

Another terrible Leafs proposal. Marner has little value with that terrible contract.

Well this post is LAUGHABLE. Marner has tons of value, and is earning his contract.

At 22 years old, he already has a 94 points season under his belt, and this year was pacing for another 92 point season. Even though he missed 11 games this year, he's STILL top 19 in scoring in the entire league. He's easily worth that contract. That's a typical high end contract in today's NHL. Others will get more.

Don't say stupid things, just to try and get a rise out of people.

I really dont think its that bad from a neutral party, Toronto adds a draft pick but thats it Marner is the best player in the deal.

lol gtfo he's like 1m overpaid if anything. Marner for for Ekblad is is Hall for Larsson level bad and everyone would be laughing at the leafs if it happened.
Is Marner that much better than Hall or has Larsson ever scored more than 24 points in a season?

FFS can we please stop all these Ekblad proposals? He's by far our best Dman, a n.1 RD, just turned 24, RD, signed for five more years. We're not moving him.

To people pointing out his concussion issues, he missed two games in the past three years.

And why in the world would we trade him for Marner? It's worse for us cap-wise and wing is the only position where we have a lot of depth and multiple promising prospects.

Ekblad and Barkov are the two guys who are simply not available.

Ekblad, Tippett for Marner

Florida is not going to do that.

Even if it made sense on the ice and in terms of addressing needs on the roster (and it absolutely doesn't) the idea that a team that needs to shed salary should trade two roster players to acquire one over-paid player is idiotic.

Not in 100 years.

Panthers don't have a defenseman good enough to bring marner.

No interest in trading him for ekblad plus a rookie

Florida cant take another albatross-contract even Marner is good. This trade would mean loosing Barkov + Huberdeau and leaving another big hole in defense. Florida need a 2C and defense.

Are people that soft on Marner? man you guys are gonna look silly in a cpl seasons,
He is easily a top 10 maybe even top 5 offensive talent in the NHL. I fully expect him to be in the top 10 in scoring next season.
The guy got 67 points in 59 games after an ankle sprain ffs, Eichel managed just 57 in 61 games played after suffering a similar injury.

Agreed. Marner isn't going anywhere very few players get marner straight up.
