Vote for us cause our forward group is legit and one of the strongest. Our defence may not be one of the top, but they'll put up solid numbers and respectable defensively. With Vasilevski, one of the top goalies in the league, in net, we feel we have a team built for success!

Not really gonna go too in-depth into the forward group, but I think it's pretty interesting simply due to the internal competition for ice time there'd likely be. Hughes has a pretty nice support group compared to what he had in Jersey initially.

The coach would have the ability to roll four lines with the bottom six essentially splitting their minutes 50/50. High-end scoring wingers, solid two-way center depth and a pretty young team overall with just two guys over 30.

Oscar Klefbom - Brandon Carlo
Travis Sanheim - Connor Murphy
Carson Soucy - Troy Stecher

The Devils' defensive depth. Pretty steady despite the lack of a real standout #1D. It's a unit built around steady two-way play and solid puck movement. Three PP options (Klefbom, Sanheim, Stecher) and six guys capable of contributing to the PK when required.

Preferably the top pair would average 23-24 minutes a night, Carlo tasked with being the team's shutdown D. Klefbom would be the team's primary PP option from the D and would be tasked with being the team's all-situations go-to.

Second pair is a nice mix of offensive flair and physicality. Both guys aren't shy about blocking shots either. Capable of playing elevated minutes when required. Sanheim in particular has the potential of being a game-breaker from the back end, seeing the kind of production he's put up so far in his career.

Bottom pair is a pair of low-risk defenders who have proven they can put up a few points in limited roles. Stecher has shown well for several seasons now and has also stepped into a top four role when needed. Soucy is a late bloomer who has had an outstanding rookie season producing offense at a decent clip while keeping things simple in his own end.

MacKenzie Blackwood
Jake Allen

Finally, a really solid young starter in Blackwood supported by a tandem starter in Allen who had a nice bounceback season.

Overall I think it's a nicely balanced roster that has really solid center depth, high-end scoring talent on the wings and a D unit that keeps things simple. And although there are some guys who struggled this season in reality, I think they'd be in a situation where they have a good chance of rebounding offensively.

Three words.

Walk with Elias.

hqdefault.jpg

We also have one of the best top lines in the league in Tatar-Pettersson-Mantha, who happen to be the top LW, the top C and the top RW in the NHL in 2019-20 in Relative Corsi at 5v5. In other words, they dominate when they're on the ice.

Depth throughout the forward lineup with guys who can play a solid two-way game such as Pavelski, Niederreiter, Kase, Wennberg, Hinostroza, Nieto, Perreault and Kotkaniemi.

We have a very rock-solid top four D of Mark Giordano, P.K. Subban, Erik Gustafsson and Brenden Dillon.

That's two Norris Trophy winners if you're keeping track.

Two-time Vezina winner Sergei Bobrovsky in net - and one of the best backups in the league in Thomas Greiss. Did you see Florida's D structure in 2019-20? Bobrovsky will be much better in this system.

No.1 PP:

Pavelski
Tatar-Pettersson-Mantha
Gustafsson

No.2 PP:

Niederreiter
Wennberg-Kase
Giordano-Subban

In close games where we trail in the 3rd period, Pettersson will replace Wennberg on this unit. Nobody has more goals by deflection in the last five years than Joe Pavelski. Nino Niederreiter is in the top 10 of the last five years in tipped shots. They are in front. We believe that our units have multiple threats to shoot from anywhere and make big plays. Pettersson and Mantha's wrist shots are filthy, Subban has a wicked slapper etc.

No.1 PK:

Pavelski/Hinostroza (Among players who played at least 50 minutes of TOI on the PK in 2019-20, Pavelski led the league in least goals against with ONE. Hinostroza was tied for 2nd with THREE.)

Giordano/Dillon (Both D-men played 2:40 a night on top 10 PK units and in Dillon's case, he played over two SH minutes a game on the 1st place PK in San Jose)

No.2 PK:

Nieto/Wennberg (Nobody played more PK mins on the Avs this year than Nieto)

Merrill/Subban (Among players who played at least 100 minutes of TOI on the PK in 2019-20, Subban was 2nd in least Fenwick chances against, only behind Nick Jensen)

Saad-Barkov-Dadonov
Athanasiou-Giroux-Atkinson
Vesey-Eakin-Bjork
Maroon-Sobotka-Acciari

Lindell-Burns
de Haan-Savard
Holden-Moore
Bishop

Line 1: This is a dynamic line. Barkov and Dadonov are very familiar with each other and have produced their best seasons playing with each other. Add in a perfect complimentary player to help hammer home pucks in Saad and you have the makings of an offensive beast.

Line 2: this line is based around an elite player in Claude Giroux. We made a late trade for trigger man Cam Atkinson. He is very capable of scoring 30goals and topped 40 goals once in his career. To round out the 2nd line we are taking a chance on big Andreas Athanasiou. He is a bit of question mark considering his bad season this year but playing with 2 bonafide 1st liners and being given every chance to use his speed as a weapon, we believe he can come back to the 25-30 goal player he was one season ago.

Line 3: This line has the ability to do it all. Not a single thing is elite but they have all around skills to perform. Eakins is a solid 3rd line center that has potted 40 points and also been relied on to help keep other lines at bay. Joining him is youngsters Jimmy Vesey and Anders Bjork. Vesey is a tough kid, willing to crash the net. Vesey is no slouch in his own end either. Along with them is Bjork. Another kid that has very sound 2 way play and has recently started to show off the offensive flair most fans knows exists in him.

4th line: This is a line that does not understand the meaning of “stop”. These boys are always turned up to 11. Noel Acciari is a pk leader and has found his touch potting 20 goals this season, paired with Big Boy Maroon who has the ability to play almost anywhere in the line up. He will our you through the boards, and we are extremely excited to get that come playoff time.

D1 Pairing: Burns and Lindell are an elite top pairing. While they are both offensive, Lindell will help cover for Burns when he gets over zealous in the offensive end. He does it now for Klingberg, why can’t it work with Burns.

D2 Pairing: Not sexy but reliable. De Haan and Savard are top 4 defenseman that can compliment each other’s skating ability well. Keeping shooters to the outside. That goes a long way when you have a goalie like Bishop.

D3 Pairing: Holden and Moore are more than competent to play as a solid 3rd pairing. Holden has great size and is a good skater. While he isn’t a bone crusher, his 6’4” frames does help push around smaller skaters. John Moore is 2nd/3rd like tweener. He has great foot speed, a bomb of a shot and is a solid defender.

Goaltending: Ben Bishop is a 6’7” monster. He possesses an innate ability to steal games for his team. His body of work speaks for itself. An underrated talent for goaltenders, Bishop can handle the puck great for a keeper.
No backup as of yet

The long and short of it is I had a blast drafting this team.
Ovechkin/Huberdeau provide an elite 1-2 punch on the top two lines. Kadri and Staal aren’t the sexiest too 6 Cs but they get the job done with their elite LWs and Yamamoto/Zadina are the perfect youthful compliment of skill to round out those lines.

Cousins-Kerfoot-Blais and Hathaway-Copp-Verhaege provide above average depth that are more than capable of handling the load.

my right side D of Klingberg-Petry-Hamonic enable every pairing to have a top 2/4 D and provide stability/strength to Kempny/Fleury/Kulak who arent slouches and can hold their own without their babysitters.

shesterkin is a wildcard but hot damn is he good!

team is solid and deserves your votes!

We have been told by multiple reputable sources that we have the best defensive forwards in the game.

Combine that with the best D in the the league in Hedman, an overall very solid top-4 D, a great goalie in Lehner, and it should give us the best defensive team in the game. As the saying goes, Defense wins championships.

We may not be the flashiest team, but we have great center depth as well with an elite 1-2 punch of Backstrom-Karlsson.

Finally, the chemistry this All-Swedish team would be insane, and their smarts would allow them pick apart their opponent to win game after game.

We have some of the top offensive weapons in this game, accompanied with some of the best defensive forwards in the league, and puck possession would be great. Our forwards are right up there and the forwards' defensive abilities accompanied with Gibson in the crease should cover for any defensive woes. Simply put this is a true cup contending team and more than worth being voted into a cup win!

We have proven winners leading our team. Malkin, Toews, Holtby, and Martinez have all played big roles on cup winning teams. They know how to win! The top 6 has a great balance of skill and two way game. The third line can shut you down and chip in on both sides. The 4th line will ware you down with great forecheking and heavy hitting. The top pairing of Dahlin-Pesce leads our D group. Martinez and Holl will allow Boqvist and Djoos to be put into a position to succeed. In goal we have Holtby who we know can lead a team on a deep run. We also have proven veteran in Miller to back him up.

We are ready for a deep run and believe in our group. Let’s get this show on the road!

Our group is solid and deep, with players who are known to play well when it matters. Leon is crushing the league in scoring, and has a stronger team behind him than ever, even without McDavid in his crew. Our top 4 is young and talented, and our Starter has constantly been facing 40+ shots this season, while still keeping his team in every game he plays. Our Back-up is also a legit starter with great numbers this year.

A comprehensive analysis of the Minnesota Wild - Fantasy hockey team:

Here is my final roster:

J.Neal-M.Scheifele-T.Toffoli
N.Ehlers-J.Carter-K.Kapanen
M.Fogliano-JG Pageau-R. Hartman
T.Motte-R.Nash-T.Lewis

B.Dumoulin-J.Carlson
B. Skeji-S.Mayfield
M.Staal-M.Roy

C.Hart
J.Halak

Here are the ingredients that I think every team needs in order to win a cup, and here is how I have addressed those needs:

1) Franchise Center - Mark Scheifele
2) Franchise defenseman - John Carlson
3) A first line calibre sniper - Tyler Toffoli and Nikolaj Ehlers
4) An elite shut down center - Jean Gabriel Pageau
5) Good Goaltending - Carter Hart + Jaroslav Halak
6) An elite defensive pairing - John Carlson + Brian Dumoulin
7) Depth - Refer to roster
8) Toughness and size - Dumoulin, Scheifele, Carter, Mayfield, Fogliano,
9) Successful playoff experience: Toffoli, Dumoulin, Carlson, Carter, and Lewis have all won cups, while JPG is a well known playoff performer.
10) Depth down the middle: Scheifele, JPG, and Carter gives this team great depth down the middle, and gives this team 3 good scoring lines.
11) Special teams: JPG, Fogliano, Dumolin, Nash, Lewis, and Mayfield will be leading the way as far as my PK goes, while guys like Scheifele, Toffoli, Neal, Carter, Ehlers, Kapanen, JPG, and Skjei will be leading the way on the power play.
12) A good bottom 6 that can produce offense and shut down. Guys like JPG, Fogliano, Riley Nash, and Trevor Lewis have been regularly cited as being among the best defensive players in the entire league. For us Canucks fans in real life, we also know how much of an impact Tyler Motte has on our 4th line and how he literally carried Beagle and Schaller into having one of the best 4th lines in all of hockey (before Motte got injured). While my 4th line won’t produce much offense (but won’t necessarily be devoid of it either), I fully expect my 3rd line to produce consistent offense with JPG leading the way.

Obviously, there are many other key factors involved in creating a good team, but these are just some of the above that come to mind:

Some possible doubts, questions, and weaknesses:

Obviously in a fantasy draft like this, all teams will have some holes. I would not be so pretentious to assume that my team was without holes. However, I will try and address some possible weaknesses and questions that I see:

1) Can James Neal continue to be a factor on the top line? My answer to that question is yes. With Carlson and Dumoulin on D, combined with a physical and talented playmaker in Scheifele, combined with a talented passer and sniper in Toffoli, James Neal will be right at home. Scheifele tends to play well with power forwards, and James Neal should also help create space for Toffoli (who plays a bit softly on the boards). Neal scored 19 goals with the Oilers last year.

2) Can an aging Jeff Carter continue to be a good 2nd line center? I believe so. The man scored 17 goals on a weak LA Kings team last year. Carter will have Ehlers on his wing, and one thing Ehlers does extremely well is setting up his teammates while bringing out the best in them. Ehlers playmaking skills (and sniping skills) will mesh well with Carter’s power game and sniping abilities. I also believe that Kapanen will benefit greatly on this line. Carter will be able to create space for Kapanen the sniper, while Ehlers will be able to help set him up. I expect 20+ goals from Kapanen on this line.

3) Brady Skjei and Marc Staal = failed defensemen? Let’s get two things clear: Brady Skjei is NOT Ryan McDonaugh and is NOT a top pairing dman. Marc Staal is NOT a 2nd pairing dman anymore. However, with roles that are more suitable to their games, I believe that I will be able to get the most out of Skjei and Staal. Skjei, in a 2nd pairing capacity, can still skate well and produce offense while having the stable Mayfield beside him. Skjei put up 24 (26?) points this year which is not too shabby. Staal is nearing the end of his career, but he’s still better than most 6th dmen and 3rd pairing guys out there (even though he is far more expensive). Staal can still stay at home and be an effective PK2 option.

3) Can Mayfield really hang on a 2nd pairing? Yes. Mayfield has quietly turned into one of the better shut down defensemen in the league. He hits, fights, and plays a defensively responsible game. He plays extremely well with Devon Toews in real life (a fluid puck mover), and Skjei also possesses those abilities. Most importantly however, Mayfield isn’t terrible at making a good first pass. It’s not his strong suit, but he’s not bad at it either. Mayfield can make a decent first pass which is what stay at homer’s often lack. Having said that, Mayfield is often susceptible to being beaten by an opposing forward with speed.

Anyways - that’s my team. It’s not a perfect team, but it’s one that I’m proud of.

Some people have already started sending me votes, so go ahead and do so whenever. Doesn't seem like much trade talk is going down. I am going to make another spreadsheet showing the votes anonymously.
