Darren Dreger (via Twitter) - Atlanta has acquired a true number one goalie, look for an eastern team to deal with the Thrashers, 1st round picks are involved.

Uniondale, NY It was announced late Monday afternoon that the New York Islanders acquired winger Patrick Sharp from the Chicago Blackhawks. Going to Chicago is Frans Nielsen, and prospects Jason Gregoire, Anders Nilsson, and Blake Kessel. The Islanders also received Colin Fraser, and the Blackhawks received a 5th round pick in 2011.

"It was really hard to give up Franzy," Isles GM IR4 said in a conference call following the trade. "But we felt we needed a veteran winger to play in our top 6. Sharp can put up 60-70 points a year, and we feel pairing him with Tavares will have them benefit from each other. We wish Frans the best of luck in Chicago, where he is a good fit. We're also excited to add a bit of grit to our bottom 6 in Colin Fraser."

In addition, the Islanders re-signed RFAs Matt Moulson and Rob Schremp to 1 year deals.

Confirm

Nielsen with his small cap hit is an ideal 2 way C for our 3rd line going forward. He is also only 25 thus younger then Sharp. Fraser was not a part of our longterm plans

The 3 prospects we received all fit into our longterm plans. All 3 will be given plenty of time to
develop , We also received a 5th which for Hawks is good as we can find some decent late round talent

:flyers

I need a god damn goalie.

I have Huet :)

Confirmed.

Going with our earlier trend with the acquisition of Jarret Stoll, the Avs continue to add grit to their offensive group. Byfuglien is one of the bigger forwards in the league and throws a ton of hits, it's something that the Avalanche believe that they were missing in the playoffs. This should really help solidify our forward group.

Our forward group now looks like:

Galiardi - Stastny - Stewart
Mueller - Duchene - Hejduk
McLeod - Stoll - Byfuglien
Porter - O'Reilly - Yip

We are looking to add one more gritty left wing to this group, but will most likely be concentrating on developing the defense.

The rights to Ilya Kovalchuk have been traded to the Boston Bruins. In return, Boston sent a conditional 2nd round pick to NJ as well as its 4th round pick. The condition is the pick will be Boston's 2nd if Kovalchuk does not re-sign, and will be Toronto's 2nd round pick if Kovalchuk does.

We thank Ilya for his service.
