In the ever so small possibility we could / would be willing to move Gardiner, Martinook, and Bear, I would love to try to get Dube and Kylington from Calgary. our 23 first with suzuki, maybe something else in there.

Patch-Aho-Turbo
Svech-KK-Jarvis
Dube-Staal-Fast
Kase-Drury-Necas

Slavin-Burns
Skj-Pesce
Kylington-Chatfield

would be quite the naughty grouping.

I don't know if it should but it's crazy to me to think that almost a Billion dollars in total contract dollars have been signed in a little over 24 hours.

our 1.5 million really put a dent into that bill

Martinook on Jordo's line opening up Kase to play on Drury's line to effectively make 3 scoring lines and one defensive shutdown line is absolutely the way to go here. Even if you want to appeal to Brindy and say the lines are as follows:

Svech - Aho - Jarvis
Patches - KK - Turbo
Martinook - Staal - Fast
Kase - Drury - ____ (Necas?)

We do that and I'm not worried about bringing back Nino.
Also a good option as well. I think KK will be fine at the #2 center spot and is only scratching the surface of his offensive upside. Martinook could fit in OK in that Nino role I guess. But if he EVER gets slotted in top 2 lines or gets ANY PP time because of injuries before Kase/Drury/Necas/Fast I will literally lose my mind.

Great guy and all, but lets be honest he is a overpaid 4th liner. Nothing more.

The Klingberg situation is really interesting to me. He was obviously out of Carolina's price range. Seravalli mentioned in his podcast that he believed it was Klingberg's camp that circled back to the Stars. Dallas proceeded to spend whatever money they could pay Klingberg on Marchment and Miller.

There was an assumption based on name value alone that his market would be robust. With the 2 best spots off the board, where does that leave him? Was Seattle's rumored interest legit or just a negotiating tactic?

The thought of what could happen as it relates to this team if he ends up getting painfully squeezed is crossing my mind now.

either ends up in Anaheim or Buffalo for a season then tries again. He would be a good partner for Powers

My guess is that if the Canucks can shed Miller or Garland, a space opens up for him there. I believe they are unhappy with their D-core and looking for a RHD.

that would be funny stuff. I love how these Canadian teams build their rosters and wonder why they dont win cups.

The only thing I would point out is that all 3 of those locations have a significant barrier to traditional 1st unit PP time (Drysdale, Dahlen, Hughes). If he gets term, it's whatever. As a transitional opportunity, that hurts from a strategic perspective.

Yeah, I was thinking a longterm contract here, not a one year reset play like Hall tried in Buffalo.

From a get talent, fit later perspective, I could see Klingberg going to one of Calgary, Islanders, or the Canes. If the Canes can do a cap dump of Gardiner, maybe they can fit Klingberg for a season and see if playing with Slavin turns him into an offensive juggernaut again. You can then shelter Burns and his legs a bit in the first year.

Alternatively, maybe the Flames can sign him and trade Andersson for a forward that can replace some of Gaudreau's production.

If I'm Klingberg, I'm not taking a short-term low-dollar deal a team that's already rolling Burns and Pesce on the right side. He's used to skating 22-24 minutes a night with tons of PP time and offensive zone faceoffs. Here, he would get more like 18-20 minutes and likely be the 2nd offensive option. Which would be awesome for the Canes, but not awesome for him as a UFA in another year or two.

99% not happening but if we somehow got Klingberg I think I'd go with Slavin/Burns and Skjei/Kling in the top 4. Pesce used on PK and in certain defensive situations with Slavin as needed, and we know he can play his off side so he'd be the left D on the 3rd pair. That group would be stacked enough we could play all 3 pairs relatively even minutes and keep them fresh.

You know what would be awesome for Klingberg's value? A Stanley Cup. And playing with Slavin. That should be the pitch. Not saying he would take it or even should. But that should be the pitch.

Looks like my previous comment about Hab fans in that topic was accurate (at least about some of them). Naturally one of them had to bring up Koko in the topic, and did so when someone said MaxPac wasn't a gamble, and the Habs fan said but what about Koko? He's a gamble. La sigh. Move on already. The Canes offersheeted a player which was completely legit. The Canes didn't steal your gf or wife. He's a hockey player ffs, and one the Habs fans hated no less.

Anyway, about Chychrun and Klingberg, I'd rather we focus on getting another top 6 forward than getting another top 4 d-man, but it'd be an interesting scenario and our top 4 defense would be probably good even after Burns' retires or we possibly trade him. If we do get Chychrun, I wouldn't be against trading Skjei (maybe for a good forward?). I think for our defense, we should just get a solid 3rd pairing d-man somehow, and put Cogs next to him and see how the young defenseman from Vegas does giving his good potential. Then we trade for a Laine or maybe Tank if he's available using Necas++ or something. That'd be my last major move for the offseason if we don't resign Nino.

Speaking of which, I'm not seeing anything about Nino. Odd. At this point, he's probably the best free agent winger available right?

Yeah, it will be interesting to see where he lands. If he wants to play for a contender and thus isn't taking just any team, it'd be nice if he took a discount for us, but he'd be on the 3rd line though right? Unless some nights we lighten the load for Burns. I can't see him being thrilled at not being locked in the top 4. So, it seems unlikely for us, and I'm sure the FO wants to spend the money on forwards instead.

I'm assuming this is aimed at Gardiner? I'm seeing that the cap savings on a buyout would be $1.48M, but we have to replace the player with that amount.
1.48 million savings? How did you get to that number? Is that because its a 1.08 million hit this season and 1.48 next?

I feel like everyone bagging on that Habs fan for that comment is completely missing his point.

His point was "everyone says 'yaaay great move to take a 4th line center who hasn't proven anything for 8 years' and 'boo terrible move to take an old guy who has been a stud his whole career.' That's hfb in a nutshell." His comment was about age bias.

And I think, in that particular analysis, he's exactly right. He says it wasn't actually about KK, and I believe him. I mean, it's obvious why those two examples are front of mind for him, lol. But his point is 100% valid, and I don't think in this case he's ragging on the Canes, or on Canes fans, at all.
