This is now trending norm

CHL is draft pool for top end rounds 1 and 2
after that jrA /NCAA/ etc are becoming the go to for nhl teams for drafting in later rounds ( enables development into ages 23/24)

USHS /jrA/ushl now spitting out more draft picks than CHL

and nhl teams just camp invite chl leftovers

A lot of CHLers deserved to be drafted especially Simoneau. Not far from Caufield in terms of talent
or size.

If you draft a player that is going to NCAA, he can take at least 4 years to sign if he starts playing NCAA immediately which usually doesn't happen. That is compared to a CHL kid who has to be signed within 2 years or can be re-drafted. I think after round 3-4, teams start looking at where the player is going to play so they can hold that asset longer.

Same applies to European prospects to CHL prospects.

Interesting reading start of this thread - way back in sept of 2015 - with both Xaviers being touted as Qc’s next wave of elite NHL talent. The words ‘Exceptional status’ even tossed in for good measure ..lol. Just Another real life example of why it’s an absolute fools game to try and project 13 and 14 yrolds

I'm curious how he looked at the Leafs dev camp. I know we don't get a lot of information out of team-based skill drills and such, just hoping for someone to mention their impression of him overall.

Does he get dtafted this year? Almost the same stats as Mercer who is rated for the 1st round and they're the same ago soo

Mercer is 5 months younger and 5 inches taller. He might get drafted in the late rounds but will most likely get invited to a camp again.

A bump.

Went undrafted, is still 18 years old, turns 19 in exactly 4 months.
Has had a strong season so far: 62 points (23 goals) in 42 games.

Scored 45 points (17 goals) as a 16 year old in 60 games
Scored 58 points (18 goals) as a 17 year old in 55 games
Is pace for 37 goals, 63 assists, 100 points as a 18 year old.

Drummondville top 6 in scoring this season

1. Simoneu 62 points
2. Mercer* 42 points
3. Campbell 38 points
4. (D) Dion** 34 points
5. (D) Nickl** 27 points
6. Charron** 25 points

*2020 top prospect, was traded to Chicoutimi (January 6th)
** indicates rookie

Great pace but still don’t see an nhl player. I think someone does take a chance on him in late rounds though

Wasn't drafted...another weird one.
Has had an amazing start to the season.

After watching this early season highlights
its a bizarre thing that he was not drafted.

Might be 5 foot 7, but plays big.

6 goals 11 points in 4 games so far this season.

I don’t understand why any teams wouldn’t take him with a late pick. It’s unlikely your late picks will make it so why not take a chance on a guy with skill. Especially with the start of the season he’s having.

If he was over 6 feet you'd bet your ass he'd be drafted.

Only saw his numbers and saw him listed in the surprise players who weren't drafted threads the past two years. It would seem that with teams taking shots on smaller players like Austria's Ben Baumgartner there may have been a club willing to fake a flier on him.

In looking at the 26 forwards invited to Hockey Canada's virtual U20 camp, however, only Val d'Or's Jakob Pelletier was under 5'10" which may be telling.

Here's a quick game report on his performance on January 30th 2020 :

Simoneau is a relentless, determined team player who was willing to do anything that would put his team in a favorable position to win. There’s not many other players who were as focus on the game as him tonight, doing all the little details and putting the extra effort that led to the victory. Simoneau brought an unmatched energy and passion to every shift, which could best be seen through his enthusiastic puck pursuits and fierce backchecks. He was a tireless defender who seemed to bet on himself to disturb every transition with a combative stick and an impressive foot speed. The left-handed centerman displayed an outstanding motor on the PK as well, bringing his persistent energy to disrupt plays and pressure the opposition. His dynamic skating also helped him waste time in possession of the puck, a forte of his on the man disadvantage. His vivacity translated on the attack as well, as he crashes the net with tenacity and jumped in puck battles fearlessly. Simoneau is an improved skater who can build on his upgraded acceleration and shiftiness to lead counterattacks. He loves to push the pace of play and attack the opposition before they can set their defensive scheme. Although his strides are short, he has become so explosive with them, that he can very well blend in with the best through transition. He’s also much quicker to evade checks and work in traffic on the cycle. The Canadian prospect showed the ability to process information very quickly, finding passing options almost instantly, with a simple glimpse of his surroundings. Simoneau acts as a playmaker for Drummondville’s offense, distributing the puck and finding open teammates very well thanks to an above average vision. As a double overager, I still see Simoneau has a potential draft pick. Not only would I bet on his determination and perseverance, but at worst, his excellent leadership and contagious energy would only help others through their development in the AHL.
