How do you let J.C. go down south to your arch rivals? WTF is going on with this organization?

Edit: I see now they are maxed for coaching jobs but still come on!

Guessing him retiring had something to do with him possibly wanting out of the organization and away from its current “leadership”.
Nah, he was quite clear that he knew he was done. Achilies injury overtook his career

That's wonderful that somebody with intimate knowledge of our schemes and playbook is now working for Calgary.
Meh, how is it going to be any different when any other UFA goes elsewhere?

Plus having our playbook means nothing, considering how they actually call a game.

Dumb comment. Clearly you don't know anything about JC Sherritt. He loves the team and said he'd never wanted to or considered playing for another team. He wants to get in to coaching. Esks already have 11 coaches under contract so could not add him.

Let him cut his teeth in Calgary, learn about coaching and then bring some experience to Edmonton in a few years.

He was also quite clear that he didn’t have anything lined up...then jumps straight to the Stamps.
So guys give Jones the benefit of the doubt, but not JC Sherritt?

Did CGY even know he was going to retire or did this all transpire after he retired.

Sherritt was the defensive captain, and MLB is usually the closest thing you have to a coach on the field. It's a little different than some random defensive back switching teams. I'm not saying it's a huge deal, but small details add up.

I agree with this but in reality there was nothing the team could do about this. They just have to make the appropriate changes to the defensive playbook.

No, but it's just a sad irony that the best coaching staff in the league immediately had a job available for Sherritt, while the worst coaching staff in the league evidently did not. Or they did, but a life-long Eskimo nonetheless concluded that the Stampeders were a better situation.

I'm a bit shocked that coaching staffs aren't pretty much done. Although I'd be leaving an empty spot just in case you want to add some sort of specialist coach

Good on JC! I don't think any of us can really blame the guy. Stamps gave him a good opportunity to start the next chapter in his football career and he took it. It definitely would have been nicer to keep him on the Eskimos staff. It's just optically this all looks bad.

I wish we had more word from Reilly. Free agency starts in a couple weeks and I'd expect him to get a lot of offers.

At the end of the day it's a 9 team league. How many jobs is JC really qualified for anyway? Couple different titles maybe. Then you add the timing and it's really a guy taking his chance when it came up.

Overall, I'm happy for him taking the opportunity and wish him luck.

The only fishy part is that the coach with the least experience on the team happens to be the linebackers coach who was the assistant linebackers coach last year, is under 30 years old and he only played parts of 2 seasons in the CFL. Whereas JC has years of playing experience and by most accounts acted as an assistant coach during his injury rehab in 2017.

Based on credentials alone, I can't see a significant advantage for the guy we have vs. JC. However, I've never witnessed either of them in a dressing room and am unqualified to judge their actual abilities.

I’m a little surprised the organization wouldn’t have had talks with Sherritt about his future going back to last season. If not for a possible coaching position after his playing days then at least about how he felt about playing this year. You’d think they’d have been in a position to know he wasn’t going to play this year and was interested in getting into coaching yet they filled all their positions anyway. Or maybe they did and Sherritt just wasn’t interested in coming back here.

Not like this team made drastic coaching changes either this off-season. A team that should've, but didn't

The other kicker is maybe the team didn't think JC was ready for that step just yet. I don't know what they really would've wanted him to do though. They might not wanted to fire anyone either, as it is late. Although at some point the team needs to think about winning and nothing else.

On a side note make sure you get your season tickets. Have a chance at a parking pass for the year if you lock in before the deadline

Exactly my point. Looks like JC probably couldn’t be an Eskimo on the field due to injuries and he probably didn’t want to be one as a coach.

Thanks for your input.

Like others have said, Calgary made space for him and wanted him. So either the Eskimos didn’t want him as a coach or else he didn’t want to be here and have to work with the head office and coaching staff who quite frankly are a joke right now.

This is just another example in a long line of examples that shows what a superior front office the Stamps have compared to the Esks.

I wish JP nothing but the best. Maybe it just shows how smart is he to take this opportunity to get out of Dodge.

Not taking a shot at JC. Stand up guy. More a statement about our front office.

Put the tin foil hat away. A job opportunity opened up and he took it. Nothing more nothing less. Just because a guy plays his whole career with a team doesn't obligate him to continue a coaching path with them. Most coaches jump around, paying their dues with various organizations.

You’re right. It’s the Esks who are the model franchise of the league. Not the Stamps. The Esks had a chance to keep a great Eskimo (on and off the field) in the organization, instead he went to Calgary.

I wish that were true but the days of this organization being the model franchise are long gone.
