He actually has been worth his contract so far, but on our team cap space is extra tight so he is not worth it for our team. So that has turned fans against him a bit. I think if the number is low enough fans will come around to the idea of keeping him

If the dollars are low I have no issues with this. Help meet the expansion requirements and he's still a decent bottom pair d-man who can move up to your 2nd pair in a pinch. In one years time he'll be an ideal #7 d-man.

Now if he's given another NMC.... that would certainly be a case for criticism.

My first reaction was pretty negative, but logically he is the guy they want Seattle to take and with Klefbom out, some depth on the back end isn't a terrible thing. One year, cheap deal.

I’m all for dunking on Ken Holland and the Oilers but Kris Russell is a decent DFD and as long as the cap hit is low ($1.5Mish at max) there’s really nothing wrong with a one-year extension to make him eligible for the expansion draft.

Well it's Holland, so I guess we just have to take what it should be and add 1M . Just don't give this guy a NMC...dunno why the old regime handed those out like candy.
