Hi folks,

We've been cluttering up the OT thread with a bunch of posts about the game. A few have been calling for a separate thread so I thought I'd make it.

Go nuts!

My worst move yesterday was trying to sneak Hellebuyck through waivers. I'm an idiot.

I traded TJ Galiardi for a 2nd round pick... First thing I did, so not too bad.

EHM looks pretty fun, I don't even know where to begin, do I just register and go from there? I've never played it before so apologies for what is likely a very stupid question.

Jeez and Chevy gets criticised around here. You're fired.....:)

I'm gonna pick this game up soon. In terms of the stats produced such as scoring etc how realistic would you say the game is.

Looks like alot of fun.

If you have a Steam account, you can grab it there. It's $15 and the game is pretty much finished even though it's an "early access" game.

The game does not have licenses for any of the leagues, so the player names are fake (although based on real life players), no logos and the league names are different.

You can fix that with some downloads: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=75

I noticed this in my steam today and bought it even though it only works on Windows and I only have Linux.

Super excited to see the franchise back!

Would you say that this game is very hardware intensive because my laptop is hilariously terrible. Considering this game has a massive amount of simulating going on.

I had a blast with the 2006 version of it. For me its been the best manager game I've played. A lot of options ( as a GM and a coach ) , lots of stats and possibilities adjusting your team. Mostly reasonable trades (though the CPU had sometimes big waiver blackouts). The only thing that really bugged me was its accessibility ( menu navigation , dull design, etc.).

If this game was made like the 2000s and you like complex manager sims, your money is well spent.

For EHM, do you guys control your tactics? I have it set for the coach to do, but I fiddled around with them.
My team sits near the bottom of the Western Conference and winning games seems to be a challenge. Apparently my team isn't as good as I though, even though I was predicted to be second overall in the NHL.

I traded Pardy for a 2nd round pick and Thorburn for a 3rd. Seems like the value of draft picks is a little off. Scoring is also a little off as my goaltenders can't seem to crack the .900 save % mark.

As for the game itself, it is almost exactly as I remember it. I put in serveral hours into EHM 2007 and even created my own database back in the day to update rookies based on Hockey's Future prospect ratings and scouting reports. I love this game too much and almost went crazy after seeing it's revival.

Yes, by a long shot. FHM would be a good game, but it has way too many issues and bugs. It does do some things better than FHM (simming games, Historical mode and menu navigation come to mind), but it's just too flawed for me to recommend over FHM.

Haha, baaaad idea.

Looks like the AI really likes to pick up players on waivers: They picked up both of Pardy and Thorburn in my game.

And BTW what country does Eric Comrie play U20 for in your game? Because he is playing for the United States with De Leo in my game. Petan didn't make the roster on top of it.

From what I've read also the ability and ease to edit players, roster, league structure, etc will be a strong argument for FHM but they need to correct the bugs and issues with the game before it can be considered on par with EHM.

Was looking for the face and logo packs, thanks for the tutorials.

I can't wait to get home from work to get it all set up.

Where the hell were you all, all these years... In the fantasy sub, there's a giant EHM 2007 thread that's been me and about 4-5 other users going on for years now

I still play 2007 religiously and it's been going on since around 2010. I've tried EA a little bit but I need a full day to really force myself to get used to the new UI.

And for the FHM comparison... so far I would say

EHM 2007 > EHM:EA >>>>> FHM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any incarnation of a feeble attempt at a GM game by EA.

Gotten to December of the first season(I tend to sim slow, keep the NHL on full detail).

-6th in the West at 14-10-5
-Ladd leading in goals with 14
Wheeler in points with 25
-Trouba has been struggling a bit, with his technical attributes I thought for sure I could have him around an 8.00 AvR, not even above a 7 right now but he is trending back towards a 7ish.
-Scheifele has 16 points but due to a low AvR I demoted him to the 3rd line.
-Lowry has been the real surprise. Matching Scheifele's point totals but a lot more solid all-around. Shooting % of 15.4 may not be sustainable but I'm riding the wave so far.

Haven't made any trades yet, might move Postma for a pick just to free up the logjam. Haven't decied if I like Buff enough yet to keep him around for the extended future.

Overall I see nothing that this game does worse than EHM 07. Very happy they seem to have fixed the issue where smaller players couldn't sustain a solid AvR. Expanded player roles and better UI. Gonna sink a lot of time into this one.

EDIT: Shortly after this post I got tired of Byfuglien out of position so frequently and the logjam at RD. Traded Buff and Lemieux for Muzzin, a 2nd and a 3rd

I drafted Howard and he has been brutal. Called up Hellebuyck and hoping he does well.
Put Lack on waivers since he has been horrible as well.
I find the scores a little high. Quite a few of my games have been 6-4, 7-3, 8-1, etc.
Still enjoying it though!

It seems like I don't have the scoring is too high proble. I'd say in average the score is like 4-2 in my games. High scoring games are 5-4 at best. Had one game only with more than 6 goals for one team I think.

But then again I try to play hard and line match the opponents to keep their score down as low as possible because Hutchinson and Pavs can't give me more than average goaltending as it seems.

Just downloaded the game and quickly started a save file and I was quite overwhelmed. Hopefully it'll be slightly easier to get my barings when I'm looking at real players.

Anybody have tips for a beginner?

Honestly, you don't have to do very much on your first few tries. Try to get good coaches and keep an eye on player progression, and other than that, just scout and draft. The games can be handled by the coach, with you not doing much.

There is a slight risk of my AHL GM being in trouble with the board after this season. I cleaned house and went young, and the team is AWFUL now.
