Weise is hot garbage. I wouldn't be against Thompson coming back.
Weise is done. He will play the final year in the AHL and then he's gone. One of Thompson or Weal is coming back, maybe both. Poehling did great things tonight, that also might change the plans.

The forward group looks promising finally. This year they experimented with a bunch of different players and I think there is finally a vision.

Tatar Domi Shaw
Drouin Danault Gallagher
Armia KK Lek
Byron Weal Thompson
Dlo Poehling

Hudon and Peca are done. If the Habs land any of the Duchene, Nyquist or Panarin, then they can trade away a vet for some help on the LD, likely candidates would be Drouin, Lek, Shaw and Byron.

Gotta keep Thompson. He and Weise are perfect for fourth lone next year, and he’s great on face offs.
Weise isn't good enough for the NHL anymore
Thompson will be 35 at the start of next year, he's too old

Weal is a perfect 4th line center, even maybe too good for the 4th line

I would suspect Berg tries to move one of Bryon/Armia/Shaw for a LD, seeing Poehling moving up and Weal playing great down the stretch and also the possibility of signing a more dynamic player (Panarin, Duchene, etc on the market).
The offense doesn't need to be tampered with much imo (yes we'd all love a Panarin but Berg wont break the bank) but an LD is an absolute need. This team competes next year finding a LD that is a legit top 4 D.
What are peoples thoughts on signing Gardiner? Im mixed honestly but
Mete-Weber
Gardiner-Petry

Seems to be a solid top 4 but I wouldn't mind someone better than Gards. That means trade though

To think we could’ve had 1-2 of KK and poehling. Sergachev on d. With vets like price and Weber.

Habs should sign Weal as the 4th line center. Let Thompson & Hudon go.

Waive Peca & Weise. They'll give us depth in Laval since I don't think Poehling will be there. Or be claimed, which is fine too.

Definitely need improvements on D. LD especially. Need another PP/puck mover back there.

Considering you will get nothing for weise peca and hudon you might just as well keep them and try to pass them through waivers to Laval. You will be looking for some veteran forwards in any event for there.

I would be 100% against Thompson being back. The guy is done. It's Niemi 2.0.
He was excellent in his role after we obtained him. In my initial list I had us moving on from him and still would prefer that, but if he were to be brought back at a reasonable contract, it wouldn't be terrible.

That seems way too high for Benn who's currently only making 1.1M Hopefully we can resign him for two years at a small increase like 1.2M

He's proven he's a solid bottom-pairing guy good defensively and wont cause too many turnovers. He can be physical, is effective on the PK and clearly is a leader too.

Those kind of dmen go for A LOT more than 1.1M on the open market

Look up Marc Methot for exemple

Good stuff

But why sign Jordie Benn tho
You have Mete and Kulak on the LD, and need to trade for or sign a prominent LD to round out, jordie is just taking up a spot right now, and worse, sometimes a key spot, and is simply just not very good anyhow
He's great at icing the puck, i guarantee you i would be too

Kulak @ 2 x 1.5M
Armia @ 3 x 2.3M
Lehkonen @ 2 x 2.5M
Weal @ 2 x 1.6M

Not interested in retaining anyone else

Think Lehkonen and Kulak is a bit high, but these are our 4 signings. I'd let Benn go, but Habs probably sign him too unless we trade for a top 4 D.
