Wasn't there some case where Hull gave him hard time for chirping to Sakic?

Hull was probably one of Avery's few friends on the Red Wings, and also his room mate. Hull was also the guy, as an assistant GM on the Stars, who later brought Avery to Dallas.

true but i can actually remember him playing like 20 some games with hartford whereas to me he just looks very out of place in the hurricanes sweater and most other teams he bounced around with at the end of his career

Seeing him in a Bruins jersey and not wearing #77 (for obvious reasons) seemed so wrong.

Now that we have a new thread, I'd just like to post a reminder - please identify the players. Not everyone is familiar with every era.

Secondly, and this is just my personal pet peeve about what qualifies for this thread - NHL players pictured in world cup/international/olympic uniforms are not good examples, in my opinion. Nor NHL players in their childhood or junior jerseys.

I think the spirit of the thread is that an NHL player is identified with a certain team, and you can't picture him on another NHL team (or WHA team or minor league team in some cases). When he plays a good portion of his career for one team or gains fame with one team, then finishes up with a season or handful of games with one or more other teams, he just doesn't look right in those other uniforms.

Also, please add the games played. I like to use "less than 100-150 GP" as a guideline, although YMMV depending on the player. 150 over 4 seasons might be less obvious than a player with 100 over two seasons.

Curtis Joseph, Calgary Flames (9 GP, 2007-08)

It normally pains me to see Oilers become Flames later on in their careers, but the way he played in the Spengler Cup that year was outstanding and it got him back in the NHL for another season and a half.

Here's a few from the 2004–05 lockout season, except Tim Thomas from the 2000–01 season.

Chris Phillips with Brynäs IF.

Hmm, what team would you say Walt Poddubny is instantly associated with? Or distinguished himself with?

Five seasons with the Leafs, four of them with 38 or fewer games played. Three very good seasons - two with the Rangers and one with Quebec. Then 3 partial seasons with New Jersey. Not a good example, in my opinion.

Speaking of WTF Calgary goalies:

9900ud-grantfuhr.jpg

Fuhr in a Flames sweater is easily one of the strangest ones out there. The Flames have had a few, although none of them the same calibre as Fuhr or CuJo.

Dwayne Roloson:

Played 70 games for the Flames between 1996-98. Although he had a shorter stint in Buffalo and lengthy turns in Minnesota and Edmonton, he seems more remembered with those teams and his Calgary days are often forgotten.

J.S. Giguere: This one is brought up often, I know.

I don't particularly associate him with any team "instantly", but he is certainly not noted for the 50 or so games he played with NJ.

Gilmour played for a lot of teams, but seeing him in Habs jersey was plain wrong.

Something a bit different. Check out #24 getting pestered by Lidstrom.

(Datsyuk wore #24 during the preseason as a tribute to Ruslan Salei, who died in the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl plane crash)

Theo Fleury with Tappara in the finnish SM-liiga in 94–95. Played 10 games and scored 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points, +1 and 22 PIMs. He played games 19 to 27 and the team went 2-1-7 with him. More info and pics here.
