Dubas puts to bed the "Leafs players aren't happy about Tavares"

I think most of the team would be happy about it. I mean Tavares is Tavares, one of the top players in the league. Nylander, still unsigned, is probably none to thrilled about it though.

Unfortunately for Nylander It seems like the perfect storm has occurred for him to not get paid this offseason. Toronto’s planning on building a team that’ll be able to compete and they can’t handcuff themselves by giving super lucrative deals to young players.

This means whatever they give to him they’ll have to hear about from Marner’s agent etc and so they can’t set a precident of bag doling or they’ll limit themselves from the possibility of scoring some better D-Men

I don't think there was much talk about "Leafs payers aren't happy about Tavares", so I'm not sure how much Dubas put to bed here, really. Maybe the likes of Steve Simmons, or other writers of his ilk who make their money solely by stirring the pot and fabricating stories when they're bored just for the page clicks and attention.

The only malcontent on the Leafs roster is William Nylander, still unsigned mere days before puck drop. Well, technically not on the roster, right now, but you know what I mean.

Dubas should probably focus more on that loose end than any perceived notion of unrest over the signing of Tavares (hint: there never was any).

Again, if Tavares didn't sign here the Leafs still wouldn't have caved to Nylander's $8M demands. Then what? Would the narrative change to him just being selfish?

I think it's entirely plausible that Brent Burns is pissed that EK was brought on board. Now he will lose minutes on the #1RD spot. I wonder if Doug Wilson consulted him before making that trade. I mean.. EK has already been moved away from one team due to locker room drama, seems like he has a lot of baggage coming with him. I'm not so sure that the SJ locker room needs that kind of distraction right now.

Well if things weren't happy you think he would tell the truth? He would say that if the players are happy or not (not saying Tavares isn't a positive addition because at least for now he is).

Well Matthews himself said the same things in his own words in August when interviewed. So either Matthews, the GM, and Tavares are all lying to save face or more logically they are all telling the truth.

Yep. This guy keeps posting things on the main board that are clearly Leafs board material. It's getting old, fast.

Yet no one has an issue with a negative Leaf thread. 30 pages of Matthews not getting an A. This one not any good?

Ask any Leaf fans who have been on the mains all offseason, it has been nearly all people have talked about. "Good luck affording everyone" and when they say Dubas says they can, we spent most of the summer arguing that no, the kids aren't bitter that Tavares came in and yes, they would sign a reasonable deal.

Go check out the Nylander threads after a few pages and it has been the most recent example. Also with Nylander it is known that his agent does this, Gaudreau did it a few years ago almost exact same playbook. Burke was interviewed and said when he dealt with the agent a few years ago they didn't start actually negotiating fairly until the day before the season started.
