Drouin is a much, much better player than Simmonds is or ever will be. Don't let stats sheets fool you.

Wow, don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion. Drouin is a borderline NHLer right now and Simmonds is a proven power forward who has scored 28,29 and 28 goals over his last 3 full seasons.

Maybe Drouin will be the better payer in the future and maybe he won't but please don't pretend that there is a discussion to be had about their current play.

Drouin could be a star in Montreal like Kovalev was. Both are magicians with the puck both are prima donna with great talent.

Drouin could be a star or a bust but it's a gamble Bergevin should made.

Simmonds, JVR or Drouin witch one would you take for a package of 1st round pick+ Juulsen + De la Rose or Scherbak ?

1) JVR
2) Simmonds
3) Drouin

Drouin has 6 goals in 89 games, you really believe that he can perform under MT? If we had a completely different management team, I'd give him a shot. But for now, I'd rather have Simmonds.

As expected, a lot of posters are pretty damned thirsty after hearing the news that Drouin asked for a trade :)

Would be a great prospect to have, but he hasn't proved a thing in the NHL yet. If Tampa even considered trading him to us, you would have to think at least McCarron + Scherbak/Juulsen and a pick would be asked for. Possible Beaulieu.

If I was MB, I'd definitely inquire. Let's not let the Pure laine factor make people lose their minds though.

I'll offer them Sherback, Ghetto, Tinordi and a 2nd.

What an overpayment for an unproven commodity. I'm glad MB took a pass, the more I read about drouin. Then again - change Sherback to DD and we might have a deal... :sarcasm:

Comparing Drouin to one of the greatest player this team ever had... The overrating doesn't stop.

JVR is a perfect player for us.

Simmonds offensive skillset starts and ends with parking himself in front of the net on the powerplay. Beyond that, you're looking at at a Dale Weise with lesser skating.

That sounds about right. The issue here seems like most people haven't seen much from Drouin. You think Galchenyuk hasn't been put in a position to produce, well Drouin has been put in a similar position, times ten. He has a better P/60 at 5 on 5 than Galchenyuk while being used mostly as a 4th line grinder. He hardly gets over 10 minutes of ice time per game on average.

Make no mistake. Drouin is a player of similar caliber as Galchenyuk. Probably even more offensively gifted. If we can obtain him without conceding any core players, it's a home run.

And it's exactly what we need from a player. Must I remind you we have Dale Weise, Byron, Flynn, Mitchell, and co taking turns in our top 6 and even on our PP ?

Oh yeah, and Drouin has played mostly with Stamkos, Callahan, Garrison and Hedman. Nice try though.

Galchenyuk is also miles ahead of Drouin in play, you make no mistake.

Terrible trade for Montreal. Drouin has not looked good at all in the NHL yet. He has upside for sure but he appears to be a player who will not live up to his draft year hype. He is not worth three major buikding blocks.....

Juulsen is our best trade bait because with Subban and Petry he is expandable. The first round pick is less necessary when you have two 2nd round draft picks and Scherbak is still an unknown quantity but McCarron and Andrighetto seem to be better and further in their developpement.

I'd offer Juulsen + Scherbak + 1st. The only prospect I would not offer is McCarron.

It's actually extremely funny hearing about all the "you don't watch him, but I do" when it's obvious none of you have watched Drouin since his arrival in the NHL.

Nah, no need for another whipping boy for this board.....

1. This is the most non-French lineup in the history of the Canadiens.
2. If Bergeron was named Bob Gainey he'd be getting destroyed in the press right now.
3. The only French element we have right now is un gros téteux behind the bench and his illegitimate son.
4. I think people can see real talent for what it is.

Using goals totals as some sort of proof of anything beyond the fact you haven't made an opinion for yourself on the two players at hand do nothing but prove my point.

Simmonds is a 3rd liner PP specialist. His P/60 at even strength since 12-13 is similar to Lars Eller's.

The point of scouting/forming an opinion for yourself is to find out for yourself who's underrated and who's overrated. And while Simmonds would be a very nice piece to add, his actual talent level and on-ice play isn't anywhere close to what his stat line may suggest.

On the other hand, Drouin is a star in the making. His skill level is off the charts, and his mismanagement by Cooper in no way indicates whether or not he has the ability to contribute as of right now on any team's top six, because I absolutely do believe he has the ability as of right now, and the talent to become so much more.

We're looking at a Seguin/Turris situation here.

1. who cares, this isn't politics, it's sports.
2. Bergevin is as bad as Gainey and you're right, he should be getting destroyed, but not for this.
3. Yeah, and they should both be gone for better candidates regardless of language.
4. We can see talent, but we also can see the fact that he's not a NHL player at this point.

If he proved himself, he wouldn't be asking for a trade.

We have to buy low on him and bite the bullet if it doesn't work. I'd be all in at this point. We have no one that brings his skill set. Not even on the radar. This is it.
It's the timing that worries me. We're trying to win a cup now. In two years our cap blows up. What are the Lightning going to want for this guy and can he help us now? All kinds of questions that we don't know the answer to. I'd rather trade prospects for an established vet right now and know what we're getting. Trading for a prospect now goes against what we should be doing.

I do appreciate that many consider him an elite talent though. Maybe he'd be great. Any other time I'd be all for it. But now? I don't think we should be going after prospects. If we do go for him, I'd want Stamkos at least as a rental to come along. THEN it makes a lot of sense.

Can't believe how many people want him here. He has proven absolutely nothing on a good team and is yet another undersized forward. We need someone proven. If the choice is between JVR and Drouin, I know which one I'm taking.
