1. who cares, this isn't politics, it's sports.
2. Bergevin is as bad as Gainey and you're right, he should be getting destroyed, but not for this.
3. Yeah, and they should both be gone for better candidates regardless of language.
4. We can see talent, but we also can see the fact that he's not a NHL player at this point.

Count the 20 year old players in the NHL right now.

Simmonds is a 3rd liner PP specialist. His P/60 at even strength since 12-13 is similar to Lars Eller's.

Also playing with THE best PP player in the league in Claude Giroux. He brings an element of grit and toughness that would fit MT but this team is in need of Top 6 Talented forwards not another glorified grinder. I'm with you

I would without a doubt include out 1st round pick for Drouin. What else would we need to add though?

Someone said Markov but I don't think any party would be happy with that.

What prospects would we be willing to give up?

Not really a guy we need right now. We're trying to win it this season and next. Now if they included Stamkos as a rental with him...

I couldn't disagree more. I think this would be a Seguin-eqsue situation. Drouin would be a HUGE boost to our top 6 now, and would be a fixture long term.

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher
Drouin - Galchenyuk - XXXX

That looks outstanding. One of Fleischmann, Carr or Ghetto could take the XXXX spot.

Simmonds is 27. Drouin is 20. Everything must be factored in when putting a price tag on each player.

Other things to consider :

Simmons would be giving us a reliable mature game until 2019 at a 4M cap hit.

Drouin would be a RFA in the 2017 summer and if things go well, would request a big money deal with his greedy agent Walsh right at the time when we have to sign Galchenyuk, Beaulieu, Markov(or find his replacement).

I haven't seen Drouin so I can't comment on it being a Seguin situation. I'd say that Seguin was more proven numbers wise when he was dealt though.

Well, Damphousse also had over 150 goals and over 400 pts at that point.
Granted, he was older, but still...

He was older, but he was traded to Montreal before his peak. His 38, 39, 40 goal seasons happened in Montreal.

Using goals totals as some sort of proof of anything beyond the fact you haven't made an opinion for yourself on the two players at hand do nothing but prove my point.

Simmonds is a 3rd liner PP specialist. His P/60 at even strength since 12-13 is similar to Lars Eller's.

The point of scouting/forming an opinion for yourself is to find out for yourself who's underrated and who's overrated. And while Simmonds would be a very nice piece to add, his actual talent level and on-ice play isn't anywhere close to what his stat line may suggest.

On the other hand, Drouin is a star in the making. His skill level is off the charts, and his mismanagement by Cooper in no way indicates whether or not he has the ability to contribute as of right now on any team's top six, because I absolutely do believe he has the ability as of right now, and the talent to become so much more.

We're looking at a Seguin/Turris situation here.

Except Seguin has a 65 points season just before getting traded and if we can get Drouin for a 2nd a Pateryn, by all means do it.

Also, playing more than two minutes a game on the powerplay since coming into the league isn't exactly mismanagement. Nor is being put on a line with Steven Stamkos for the majority of your time up here.

Simmonds is a terrible player at ES ? Yeah, sure. He produces about 10 less points than Pacioretty does at ES. First liner ? No chances. 2nd liner ? Duh.

Count the 20 year old players in the NHL right now.

Count how many teams have the best goaltender in the league and are in win now mode, not in five years.

Drouin could be a star in Montreal like Kovalev was. Both are magicians with the puck both are prima donna with great talent.

Drouin could be a star or a bust but it's a gamble Bergevin should made.

Simmonds, JVR or Drouin witch one would you take for a package of 1st round pick+ Juulsen + De la Rose or Scherbak ?

I take JVR. I like Drouin a lot, but I'm a huge fan of JVR. He is basically Pacioretty-lite. He'd be a PERFECT fit for Galchenyuk.

but but but, he has a bad attitude. At least that's what someone who has something to lose said rather than this player that has no bearing on anything that happens.

That's a load of crap (saying he's entitled or has a bad attitude). It's funny, I remember when Subban was egotistical and had a crap attitude. People apparently have no clue. Apparently working hard and being constantly mistreated, and quietly asking for a trade = a tiny whiner with attitude problems. :shakehead

Just to reiterate, I'm venting in general, not at you.

It's the timing that worries me. We're trying to win a cup now. In two years our cap blows up. What are the Lightning going to want for this guy and can he help us now? All kinds of questions that we don't know the answer to. I'd rather trade prospects for an established vet right now and know what we're getting. Trading for a prospect now goes against what we should be doing.

I do appreciate that many consider him an elite talent though. Maybe he'd be great. Any other time I'd be all for it. But now? I don't think we should be going after prospects. If we do go for him, I'd want Stamkos at least as a rental to come along. THEN it makes a lot of sense.

Stamkos+ Drouin would cost you one of Galchenyuk or Gallagher + something. I don't see a possible deal for both of them.

32 points in 70 games as a 19 years old playing 13 minutes a night on average with barely any PP time.

Not an NHL player.

As usual, people only seem to realize the actual value of a player when he's finally put in a position to succeed and produces up to his talent. Fact is, guys that are in that position more often than not aren't on the market as they are a core part of their respective team.

Drouin is an underutilized asset that's been mismanaged ever since he first stepped on NHL ice, and you can see how underrated he's become if only by reading some of the stuff in this thread. That means now is the time to strike. That's how you find gems like Nill did when he traded for Seguin. Because you don't trade for a Seguin when he's producing upwards of 80 points a season.

The job of a GM is to see ahead of what's happening in the moment.

Now that's an opinion right now but I'll roll with it: he can be a top 6 right away.

We can throw a ton of prospects for him and picks and get both rewards: help right away and keep our team on the young side. That's the bet I'm making with Drouin.

It's a risk but we need to make this one. It's just how I feel about what he brings. Talent like we haven't seen for a huge while. Every team needs one, just like we need to keep McCarron for his size. For the rest, everyone his made available and so is every pick we possess.

JVR is not really Pacioretty lite. He actually goes to the net and plays good along the board.

He would be a perfect fit for this team, can't think of a better fit in the league, actually. He's basically a Eller++

We're in win now mode. Can't score in the playoffs, yet spend second less $$$ of our Cap pie on forwards for all NHL teams (29 out of 30 teams)... Bergevin Wake UP!!!

I'd try
Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher
Flash - Galchenyuk - Ghetto
DD - Drouin - Carr/DSP
DSP/Carr - Mitchell - Flynn/Weise

Ideally we can somehow get Drouin for futures like Juulsen+++ and ideally we also get JvR for Eller + futures and/or picks so we can bump Flash down 1 spot.

I've been stupidly high on Drouin for a long time now, so of course that will affect my bias. I'm pretty confident he can have a really positive impact on our team now. I think he could be about as impactful now as Galchenyuk is, assuming he's past his injuries. And FWIW, I think Galchenyuk is one of our best forwards right now, so that's pretty high praise.

I'd try
Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher
Flash - Galchenyuk - Ghetto
DD - Drouin - Carr/DSP
DSP/Carr - Mitchell - Flynn/Weise

Honestly, I'd rather Drouin on RW than C. I'd rather Galchenyuk and McCarron as our long term #1/#2 punch, with Pacioretty and Drouin as our elite wingers. :dunno:

Drouin HAS to play on Galchenyuk's LW if we somehow get lucky enough to trade for him.

Unless both Eller and Desharnais suddenly vanish, the two two of them are also better options to center a 3rd line than Drouin.
