LOL I think people forget how good matthews is. Recency bias is hilarious for us leaf fans.

We think nylander sucks, we think matthews is overrated now, we think kapanen is better than nylander, we think marner is better than matthews, etc.

Matthews is our bonafide best player. Players like him NEVER come around. He is a big center who will score 50 plus goals a year and be good defensively.

I bet if gauthier scores 4 goals tonight we will think he is a top 9 forward who is secretly better than nylander.

Correct

Well that’s my point if a team offered 11m and marner doesn’t wanna sign with that team dubas could give him 9.5m with big signing bonus to make up the difference

If another team offered 11 M (I guess you're saying with no signing bonus) and the Leafs offered 9.5 M (with a signing bonus), Marner would be making less money overall with the Leafs (assuming term is the same in both cases), but the signing bonus would mean he'd be getting some of that money quicker.

Can we get a list of teams who 1) have the cap space to absorb the type of contract that it would take to snag Mitch in an offer sheet and 2) have the picks necessary to tender a max or near max deal. Also these teams probably shouldn't have a player that is in the same situation as Mitch

As always the negative Toronto media hype machine tries to remain relevant. There's just no point reading their worthless fearmongering.

Nothing is going to happen. Marner isn't risking ending up somewhere he doesn't really want to be. But sure let Dreger and the Insiders desperate to try and remain relevant throw random stuff around hoping to get people coming back to their site.

Worth considering that if this rumour is correct, its also currently driving up Matthews contract asking price in on going negotiations.

Matthews/Agent believe AM is worth more than MM in next contract. Teams are so called "lining up to break the bank on OS potential" then that has to be something that comes into the thought process of the current ongoing negotiations as well.

Is Matthews going to sign now for a discount mid season, and then in 6 months watch Marner get a OS for + millions more than him and break the bank?

This media is so toxic........................:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
And a Leafs game against Detroit tonight to boot!
Leafs fart catchers trying to find something interesting to say gnawing away at the professionally and very intentionally stone cold silent Leafs organization like some bacteria staphylococcic
and maybe talk about something for a month along with the endless demands for a good Canadian kid defenseman who looks great "look at him there" sitting in the penalty box and knows how to shoot
two sports radio stations, (Perhaps TSN more than the Fan) tripping over their own scatological analysis trying to find something- anything! - to fill the air time on the Yapping Leafs show, leaves these poor on air personalities so fixated on breaking non-existent stories it's as if they have no feelings for the poor listener, as if totally psychotic.

As Dellow said, you can say anything you want to Dreger or an "insider".

You're literally feeding information to an opponent's player's camp that could negatively effect their club's contract negotiations...

Not only does Marner's agent use this to prop up his value, but Matthews' agent could probably use this information as well to increase their demands...

Yeah if a team offered 11m x 8 =88m couldn’t dubas offer 9.5m x 8 with 12m in signing bonuses = 88m

What risk is there for Marner to wait until July? Same with Matthews?

We don't know who said that. It might be made up too. Who knows. This is pretty standard stuff in every sport. Information and intentions gets leaked intentionally all the time one way or another.

I don't think Dreger is going to get many scoops from Dubas from this point on though.

When Marner's agent Darren Ferris s told Dubas he wasn't going to negotiate during the season, this is the exact reason why and what he hoped for would happen to drive up salary and provide him leverage.

Use the season to drive up Marner's stats and us the external market (ie OS potential) to drive up the price.

Are you serious? Teams can't OS Marner or any player for that matter until July 1st so if Dubas falls your fake news media propaganda he should be fired today.

Matthews, Laine, Marner, Connor, Trouba, Rantanen, Tkachuk are just some of the possible offer sheet candidates.
It’s not just the Leafs. But if course as long as the possibility exists...here we are.
