Right. I’m assuming there is some validity in the post we read.

I swear I read someone write he is Michael Nylander on steroids, now huge grain of salt because not many have actual insider info on here. but even if partially true that's going to be a problem. Honestly even without an offersheet we shouldn't be paying marner more than $10M. $10M flat maybe but as you climb up and up it becomes a lot less palatable to have him

A - He doesn't want to leave, makes little sense for him to go over a small amount
B - With RFA's starting to get paid like UFA's, GM's aren't going to start using offer sheets that only gives more leverage to RFA's.

Take the first 4 rounders and use money to sign Karlsson or Panarin.

I’d be incredibly disappointed if Marner was the one to chase the money. He more than anyone should be willing to take a discount to help make everything fit

I can quite honestly see this being resolved by the draft. If we've got the other 3 RFA's locked up with a set Marner budget, their camp doesn't play ball, and their is legitimate offersheet risk (management will know) then we play the draft like Chia did with Kessel (yes I know the DD deal fell through), with the offersheet comp as a reserve bid.

Show the initiative, get the picks a draft sooner (or get roster players) and go into UFA with a clear picture of what we're dealing with.

This is clearly tampering. Leafs should start tampering too.

Use our money to destroy those small market teams.

Unfortunately its not.

Team do shady things all the time. Players have discussions on the ice with other players, they talk at those charity events in the summer, a friend of a friend has a casual conversation, agents and GM's use the media to "suggest" stories.

For example, Simmonds was at one time a great power forward, maybe top 5 in the league, now he is an old busted broken down shadow of his former self. Some how Dregger, LeBrun, Kypper, Friedman are all reporting that Simmonds is the "hot" player on the trade board, Boston and Toronto are the top two teams who need a power forward, the two teams met last year in the playoffs, who are fighting it out for home ice advantage and apparently it's going to take a kings ransom to land him. Geeze I wonder who planted that story to pit Toronto and Boston against each other....it is a trick as old as pro hockey.

GM's use the media, agents use the media, they plant " true stories" with people who have a wide media audience, like the Insiders on both networks, to gin up fans to pressure their GM's to make that deal.

If a busted broken Simmonds is the difference between us and the cup, I'm sure we can find something cheaper and younger on our farm, Marchment?

Also I’ve been a fan of Dregs for years and understand that he hasn’t been as good as he used to be for rumours, but IMO he’s officially jumped the shark with this one.

I wonder c he gets all those commercials and sponsorship money he has already made if he wasn’t a leaf

Dude Boston sucks; Marner is not gonna make them super elite

Dude Boston has had a ridiculous rash of injuries and they one of the hottest goalies in the league. Any team that has Bergeron has a chance to win the cup. The guy is that good.

Typical media sensationalizing now that wewe g defense help. Always have to have something negative to drum up the fear and cynicism of the casual fan.

As I said in my thread (inspired by this topic on the main board), if we budget fair money (9+ million) and he tries to leverage us for more then let him go, take the picks, and spend that 9 million elsewhere. We'd still be in a great spot

Take the 4 1st round picks, turn around and sign Erik Karlsson.

Name the guy not chasing the money? That is the number one priority.

Big center vs small winger

Future projection wise Matthews>Marner

Plus matthrws’ Prime will be a lot more impactful to his team than marner IMO

I'll believe it when I see it.

I still say offer sheets are like the boogeyman. They're not attractive under this CBA and that's why we haven't seen any.

Signing a UFA for the same or less money and acquiring 4 1sts for an RFA pretty much allows you to not skip a beat and keep the train rolling for years if you draft well.

I cannot see Mitch not signing but if he is not signed before the draft I would start floating the idea to the Marner camp.
