He said that the Oilers did make an offer for Tim Connolly, but the Leafs didn't like what was offered. It was a player with more than three million dollars on it and another year left at least.

First thing to remember is Dreger is the Biggest homer on sports radio, he is also wrong a lot. If you've ever listened to that station for whatever reason the lot of them love having cracks at the Leafs. It would be Horcoff for sure. Schultz is actually a top 4 dman on that piss poor group. Besides, if Connolly can establish that he is back in form he could be worth as much as 2nd at trade deadline.

Definitely made more sense to let Connolly's final year run out and free up that cap space for the offseason. Oilers would have had to of thrown in a pick/prospect if we were going to eat another year of a contract dump.

Given how Komisarek played for us in this season, if I am Oilers, I'd definitely do this trade.

Leafs should just give up Connolly for a conditional pick, say a 5th rounder if a team fails to make the playoffs or a 4th if they do. Also, pro-rate the pick based on the number of games he plays.

He's not doing anything on this club in the future, didn't do a lot last year, and isn't exactly doing a bang-up job with the Marlies. IIRC he still gets paid the most of his contract.

Nor is he a threat against the Leafs if he's in a completely different conference.

In short, he's pretty much done as an NHLer.

I don't think it would make much of a difference either way. Nonis would likely just use one of the amnesty buy-outs on Horcoff instead of Komisarek in the offseason.

Don't see the Leafs trading him for anything other than a pick or prospect. Between Connolly, Mac and one D-man, I can see the Leafs picking up some picks for the upcoming draft. potentially 2 more 2nd round picks.
