Probably more Torts couldnt handle him...just a hunch

Because?? I’m assuming you’re (and the others) are alluding to what happened in Ottawa with Karlsson, but that was never verified and he wasn’t remotely a problem in Florida...from what we’ve been told.

Word is that Mike Hoffman is legally changing his name to Loui Eriksson so that the Canucks can claim he's the rightful signatory of that sweet 6 million dollar a year contract.

I’d assume most people are referring to the fact that he’s one of the worse defensive forwards in the NHL. Which goes against how Columbus plays the game.

uh, why not?

Jarmo knows what he wants in a player and he knows what his head coach wants. Aside from his shot Hoffman possesses little of those qualities.
No knock on Hoffman though. What he does he does really well. And he does do more than your archetypal 100 foot guy.

It's just hard for me to see Hoffman and CBJ together. It's a weird market now though so maybe I shouldn't bet my house on it.

2019-20, CBJ were ranked 27th on the PP during regular season, 22nd/24 teams during play-ins/playoffs.
2018-19, CBJ were ranked 28th on the PP during regular season, but they were ranked 3rd in their 10 playoff games

A key reason they swept TB that year was a good playoff PP, they scored a PP goal each of those 4 games, two in game 2. Hoffman would instantly make their PP better.
A sound defensive team like CBJ would be the best insulation for a defensively flawed PP specialist who can score even strength goals as well.
I don't see him going there solely because he won't get 1st line minutes to play with PLD, he wants to inflate his stats and don't think Domi would be a good fit for him on the 2nd line.

I second this. I heard Guy Boucher on being asked why Hoffman was still unsigned. He coached him for a bit in Ottawa. He says that it's a guy who scores from afar. He has a heck of a shot. That also affects his game as that he won't be willing to "pay the price" and get in the dirty area of the ice.

Therefore, he is a defensive liability and relies on his shot a lot. Not every team will want him because of that. I think as mentioned, if a team has a good leadership group and good linemates to surround him, you might really like him though!

but, the whole world knows that shot is coming, exactly where it’s coming from, and it still gets through. And he’s better defensively imo than he gets credit for. Not immensely better, he’s no Huberdeau, but he’s not Pirri either.

Hoffman will be a leaf. I made a thread about it and I stand by it. Couple things. Leafs were his favorite team. Shanny and Dubas are awesome at getting the big fish. Kerfoot and his 3.5 million contract are not needed. Kerfoot would be moved back to the wing with Thorton centering that 3rd line. Hoffman would take a wing spot there, and he can play both wings. Hoffman would be a major ungrade over Kerfoot.

That said, Andersen might be the guy to move to clear up capspace. Freddy has shown to be a perennial choke artist in the playoffs. There are ways to move salary to get Hoffman.

Just like JT, Hoffman would love to put on a leafs jersey.
