This trade just speaks wonders for me. I already know we had:

- deep prospect pool
- young, talented forwards (some potential superstars)
- solid top 4 D
- depth at goaltending
- Jack Adams Coach
- a nice/smart manager who will get along with agents

Now I see we have:
- world class D
- a manager who can play cut throat and be a nice guy at the same time

If that's not a formula for success, I don't know what is.

We just need the Klimchuk's, Poirier's, etc to develop (or free agents) to fill in the depth of this squad and it will be as good as any.

I honestly think this team is only 3 pieces away from contending.

1. #1G (upgrade over Hiller)
2. #2C (with size and faceoff ability)
3. Top 6 RW (preferably with size)

(The maturation of Gaudreau, Monahan, Bennett, and Hamilton will play a massive role too)

Definitely. As for the goalie, I hope that's already in the system with Gillies but who knows. Top 6 RW wouldn't be the hardest void to fill so im not overly concerned. Similar with a big #2 or 3 C.

The development of our young studs is a non concern for me because these guys ooze with the hockey buzzwords of "character" and "competitiveness". With how good our leadership is and how good our development seems to be, these guys will continue to improve.

Yeah, if we can get:

1. Niemi (if he doesn't sign with Dallas)
2. Fleischmann's 6'1"...
3. CHRIS STEWART

Then we're set.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bennett - Fleischmann - Stewart
Raymond - Backlund - Jones
Colborne - Stajan - Bouma
Shore/Ferland

Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Russell
Engelland - Wideman
Smid/Schlemko

Niemi
Ortio

I got chills typing that.

Fleischmann isn't even a center. Niemi is also dirt, better off keeping Hiller.

1. Hope Ortio can be that guy this year.
2. Hanzel would be great. Is Vermette tradable?
3. I'd go for Frolik over Stewart

Having Wideman as a tradable asset helps. Hopefully could land us one of those two forward needs.

Getting off-topic here, guys. Armchair thread is there for armchairing. This thread is for learning how to Dougie.

Couple anxious thoughts I've been having . . .

What IF, what IF Sweeney knew I tiny bit more than we and the majority of the media are giving him.

What IF Hamilton isn't more than a #3 - #6 D-man? Just heard Eric Duhacheck (sp) and he mentioned he didn't see enough of Dougie but there was some thought that he wasn't as physical as would be hoped for his size. That said, there is some comparison between Hamilton's development and Pronger's (gah I couldn't stand Chris).

Now, the MAIN concern I have, is what if Sweeney KNEW that Dougie and his agent would drag it to the 12th hour and then indeed swing for the fences, as in, 8-10 mill over 7? Just a scary thought. I'm sure BT will match offers, but wow would that be a seriously scary investment. Especially if DH isn't all that's hoped.

Just two negative thoughts to start the day.

As far as signing, I'm not worried. As far as being more physical, that could come with more weight and NHL comfort level. He's now in the west where you need to step up the physical play and I'm sure we will see him take that next step in his development.

Didn't it come out that Dougie and Barry were asking for $7.5m AAV, while Sweeney the Bruins offered $5.5m? If that is the case, I don't think that it would suddenly jump to $8-10 million. I personally think he'll be signed for somewhere between $6.5 and $7 million when all is said and done.

Not sure if this has popped up yet or not, I'm at work and don't see images when posted from certain sites.
