It feels like people are going off of the thread title and reacting without reading the actual quotes. He didn't say that the Kings are running out of time, but that he and the remaining Cup-winning veterans are running out of time. He's not wrong. He and Kopitar, especially, had very good seasons, but may not have very many of those left. He just wants the Kings to accelerate the rebuild a little so that they're competitive while he can still contribute to it.

Also, it's not as if he volunteered this opinion. He was asked in his final media interview if the Kings should spend this Summer to bring in pieces and he gave his honest answer. The reporter even pressed him to elaborate. It may've even been the same reporter who wrote up that NHL.com article, perhaps trying to coax some juicy quotes out of him that would make for a good article. Doughty fell for it.

Well he's not washed up with the insinuations you're making. He'd be a top dman on many teams today so LA wouldn't have to retain a big chunk of his salary at all if teams wanted him and he was available.

If they want to move him they would have to retain at least 3-4mil. I am assuming he has a NTC so you can bet he would only be traded to a contender... who would likely not have a ton of cap anyways. Cap dumps would be likely too.

The reality is when someone is signed through to their Kate 30’s like drew and has the term left on it that he does, teams don’t want to take on the entire cap hit.

OEL gave permission for a trade to either Van or Bos but his $8.25 mill was a stumbling block as well.

Yea exactly. For him to be moved (to a contender) LA is going to have to eat salary. Like I said it will be at least 3-4 mil + cap dump from the other team.

It isn't that he's washed up. Doughty just isn't the defenseman he once was. What team can afford 11M, and even wants to make room for someone who's 31 and not dominating the position? Unfortunately, the frozen cap is going to severely hurt players like Doughty as teams budgeted those contracts with the assumption the constantly increasing cap would accommodate them.
