Because that's not reporting, figure it out. You don't pay him for quotes you pay to watch him play 27 minutes a night. 3rd most in the NHL id say you're getting a bargain.

Oh I figured it out alright. I have figured out that many here are a bunch of beliebers when it comes to Karlsson. It is embarrassing to what lengths, boycotts, lol, people are talking about because a hockey writer has the temerity to ask Karlsson on his thoughts on being named to the Swedish Olympic team.

I pay for him to play and to hear the Great Swedish One speak. When he did speak my son would shush the room. Let's not forget what he does and who he does it for. He can grow up and learn from true pros like Spezza and Phillips who always face the music. That is what pros do, not primadonnas.

He's doing his post game scrums, why should he be required to do special one on one interviews about his personal lif with the Ottawa Sun?

This is just speculation on my part, but I could see him having a moral and philosophical issue with helping that organization earn revenue. The guy is from one of the most socialist states on the planet, does fund raisers for humane society in his free time and has his own brand of fair trade coffee. Maybe he doesn't want his name associated with a union busting, anti environmental, bank backing 'news' paper. Just a thought.

He is not doing any media scrum except with Sens TV. This is what the problem is. The Senators control everything that he says or is reported. Why? He did not address the media about he Olympics, his selection...nothing. Brennan said over and over that he wants to talk hockey with Karlsson. he has said he is not interested in his personal life, true or not. Why has EK not spoken to anyone? Anyone?

My understanding and my annoyance at this is he will not talk hockey with a reporter because he is not doing any scrum pre or post game.

you don't pay him

people are talking boycotts, because we realize that if we allow the media to bully players around here, they are gonna be less likely to wanna stay. Not everyone is a Gretzky, who is great with the media. Hockey players are human beings, they have their ups and downs in their career as well as in their personal life. Yes, media attention comes with being an NHL player, but its not carte blanche to be mistreated.
This guy is flesh and blood like all of us, if he wants to tell us whats on his mind, he will, if chooses not too, what difference is it making?

coladin = Don Brennan

I wouldn't be surprised if someone here was Don.

I have to ask though....does anyone really watch the post game scrums/interviews? Hockey players are the most boring interviews in sports.

The only time it's remotely worthwhile is after a really controversial game in the faint hope something slips out. And even then, most of the time it's bland nothings anyways.

He is 23, they were not looking for quotes from Spezza and Phillips about their personal life when they were 23.

What do you want to hear from him exactly? The team is playing well he has played well they have points in their last 6. Is the positive too much for you? Do you need to hear drama or negativity? What is it that you are looking for exactly?

I personally like to let it ride when the team is playing well. I guess you would like to see them change a couple things up?

No 7 pages on here does nothing for him, it's just a hockey forum.

He only gets money from direct clicks on his articles and maybe for going on the Team 1200.

So if you indicate you boycott both of those, then he's being hit where it hurts.

No - that is not true. He's likely responsible for having this thread started and / or bumped...whether it be via his own bogus account (Chezzz) or if Chezzz is one of his little minions. That being said what he'll do is take this to his supervisors in order to justify his position as a "journalist". The fact that people are investing the time to vent their frustrations of Brennan is simply justifying how valuable he is to the Sun. If no one replied to this thread, then it would be fair to say no one cares...but that's obviously not the case.

Brennan stated this morning on TGOR that he absolutely wants to ask EK about the tweet in regards to the horrible year of 2013. Then he stated that this is now personal.

Anyone else hear him this morning??

As for JR's replies....I have gotten one before and it was not polite at all. He basically stated that he didn't give a crap about what I said and that they will continue doing whatever they want to at the station.

Do you actually believe that Erik Karlsson is the only player in the NHL doing this? It's literally hundreds of players around the league. Watch That's Hockey Tonight or any other nightly hockey show and almost each and every interview they air is "courtesy of Wild/Avalanche/SabresTV etc.

And Brennan made it pretty clear this morning that he wanted to get to the bottom of that new years tweet. Don't know how that's not personal. Brennan doesn't give a crap about hockey questions as he's clearly demonstrated over his career so I don't know why hockey players should respect these journalists who can't do their jobs properly and pay attention to the games.

To me, it sounds like you have an issue with the team and league not Erik Karlsson. Because these policies are wide spread. Not everyone wants a circus in their dressing rooms like Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.

Err... you do know that the SensTV video theypost is just a straight recording of the media scrum that players do in the locker room after a game right?

That media scrum is also the only thing the players are required to do under the CBA/NHL/Sens organization rules (as part of their contract to do their job) and that any additional access to the players by the media is by request, and players are allowed to say yes or no by their own choice due to privacy laws and the such.

Forward it to TSN or Bell's customer relation guys and states your concerns again. The only thing you can do is escalate it up the food chain.

Ya, cause that makes a lot of sense.

I love my bogus account. And being one of Brennan's minions makes sense too when I despise the guy.

We hear other players talking about what caused the turnaround. Spezz had some quotes, most of the key players have had quotes about the turnaround. Perhaps people like to hear from a star player who has been front and center in the turnaround on what has changed?

Not once in any post on this thread did I say that I care about his personal life. I don't need drama.

Why did he not meet with the media about is selection on Team Sweden? That is a hockey story. There are a lot of fans, my kids included, that like to see their heroes on TV, even if for many of us, it is typical hockey quote stuff. Let's not forget, again as I said before, who he plays for and who is watching. I know that you and many other beliebers don't care, and that is fine. Crosby talks and always did, maybe he is more mature than EK, fine.

Everyone here is focussed on his personal life when all a beat writer wants to do is get some hockey quotes, and once again, it is no just Brennan. It is everyone.

To be fair, he tweeted that he was very grateful for the opportunity to represent Sweden at the Olympics.

What else would you want him to say?

NHL teams are encouraging their players to tweet. EK posted something and a reporter wants to follow up on it. I heard Brennan this morning and EK is well within his rights to tell him to "**** off it's personal", and Brennan stated he has no problem with that. Or EK can say about his injury, his best friend being traded, not winning the Cup, people's expectations, etc...and leave it at that. Maybe getting separated to EK was the best thing of his year? Who know and who cares?

EK used to talk and be accessible and now he is not. They used to shoot the **** with him and I have never seen anything posted about his personal life. As a matter of fact, did anyone see anything personal about any Sens player? Not even about Heatley....

Erik's obligation is to play hockey.

Don 'garbage picker' Brennan says that the fanbase has a right to access its players. Here's the thing. It isn't 1992, and reporters aren't the only medium between players and the public anymore.

Karlsson talks to Sens TV. Karlsson does post-game scrums that get aired on major sporting networks. Karlsson has twitter. He's accessible.

And here's the kicker. Karlsson does not wear an 'A', and has zero obligation above and beyond what he already does for the media. I'm perfectly content with Erik keeping a buffer.

Don Brennan should get reprimanded by the Senators PR staff for badgering a player that he has a legacy of attempting to tarnish from the very beginning. He's a media leach, trying to suck page views out of a non-story.

It does to a troll who feeds off of Sens fans' hatred of him. I'm not saying you are a troll because I don't know who sits behind the account name Chezzz but I know Don Brennan is a troll and you are one if you're him.

Didn't an out-of-town player (a tough guy) verbally confront Brennan years ago in a hallway about some remarks he made in an article? I seem to remember him cowering in the hallways like a scared rabbit....or was it another Sun reporter? (This happened at least 10+ years ago, iirc.)

That was Georges Laraque. Called him out and Brennan hid behind the scrum. Then Laraque laughed at him to his face.

http://mirtle.blogspot.ca/2008/04/don-brennan-on-rampage.html

I know that some players call him ***** Brennan (Double B) since that moment.

I wonder how many cans of beer he smuggled onto the plane for the road trip?

As an advertiser, and potential sponsor. This is going to sway my decision to spend money with TSN1200. I've voiced my concern with the station management and until there is some corrective action, I don't see my company working with Bellmedia in Ottawa in the near future.

Someone needs to call out Brennan, and I want to ensure that my company is the first that holds TSN1200 and Brennan accountable.

JR had that opportunity today and he clearly sided with Brennan and laughed at everyone who was upset about this article. In fact, I believe that JR put Brennan in the cohost seat today to piss people off, you know, JR seems to love playing the "Pot stirring" sound effects and he used them a few times this morning.

Mendes and Versage clearly didn't call him out yesterday either.

This needs to happen more.

Start going after the SPONSORS and asking them to pull revenue. Particularly anyone that is partnered with EK.

Hurt the wallet, hurt the Team1200.

Which is why I've reached out to the station and said I'm going to pocket my money or spend it elsewhere unless this is rectified. As a new brand in Ottawa, (outside of the super-tech-savvy) we cant afford to be associated with a station that is going to attract such blatant and negative attention.
