It may sound like a silly question, but regular season success doesn't always translate to playoff success.
Hell, the 2005-06 Wings ended up with 124 points and got kicked out of the playoffs in the first round by the Oilers. Ten years before that, 62 wins and 131 points, out in the second round against St. Louis.
The Capitals and Sharks from a few years ago are also guilty parties. In Washington's case, they badly lacked depth at F and defense.
