Absolutely not. Bad as Kuemper has been for the month of April and ordinary as he has been this postseason, Frankie was worse. He won’t save this team. They either need to get the big saves when necessary from Kuemper or they need to score a lot more goals.

You don't think Kuemper might be shell-shocked?

Yes, they absolutely should go with Francouz in game 6. They won't, but they should.

Kuemper has been shaky at best to putrid at worst, and Franky looked decent in his relief performance. At this point it is worth the gamble. Franky could play terrible in game 6 and still play better than Kuemper did tonight. And who knows, he could get hot, and game 6 is the right time to give him a shot. If he falters, you go back to Kuemper in game 7.

I know people will look at this idea of shattering Kuempers confidence for a game 7 if Francouz falters badly in game 6. But goalies get breaks during the regular season all the time. It's typically on back to backs but they don't play every game. Suddenly in the playoffs, it's totally different?

That’s irrelevant, the Avs have to sink or swim with him. There’s no alternative. Frankie is not good enough to carry this team through the playoffs. He’s a perfectly decent backup but he’s not a better option than Kuemper. If Kuemper chokes this away then the Avs have even bigger questions going into the offseason.

Frankie was worse than Kuemper in the couple playoff games he played against the Preds. He is not the answer.

I don't think it's irrelevant. It simply comes down to who gives you the better chance that game.

We don’t really have time to wait for a goalie to develop with this core. I’m actually at a loss about the goaltending position.
In that case, Sakic needs to fleece another GM (unlikely) in a trade, for a reasonable return (also unlikely). Hence, Price 60% retained + bags & bags of pucks. :sarcasm:

I thought I took loses terribly. I get it, the OT goal sucked something fierce. It's a dagger, it hurts. It's apart of the playoffs unfortunately. If the Avs can't handle this how are they going to handle any other bad luck or unfortunate moments that await in the next two rounds (for us or any team). The defensive effort in the 3rd period was flat out bad. So many lost puck battles in the defensive zone or just getting beat to loose pucks. The Blues got some luck in tying up the game, particularly the 4th goal which knocked Kuemper's mask askew then took a really weird bounce to the weak side with three Avs players in front of the net.

The Blues also took advantage of the opportunities given to them by the Avs. The Avs opened the door for the Blues to create their own luck and get into scoring positions. The Blues took full advantage as expected and finish their chances. It starts with the players up front. Kuemper isn't the one who let in a goal from 132 feet. Kuemper isn't the one who makes 6-9M and has been a ghost for every game except for now. What's Devon Toews doing other than having a series that got him traded from the Isles. The Avs tighten it up in front of Kuemper and they'll take Game 6 in a breeze. The Avs decide to trade chances or just allow the Blues a shooting gallery of chances very few goalies would survive that if any.

Kuemper no questions asked, if there was a time to put Francouz in, it was somewhere in the third period or in OT for Game 5.

And that’s still Kuemper. End of story. If Kuemper is not the guy then they need to find a new starting goaltender this offseason. Frankie is the backup, and that’s all he is.

Its the end of the story as long as he does well. If not, it's a question that lives through the ages.
