This is scary but it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Demko now has an opportunity to prove that he's capable of backstopping this team to the playoffs.

remember 2015 season. ryan miller was hurt and lack played down the stretch and propelled the canucks to the playoffs, face calgary and the ending wasn't good. now its demkos time to shine.

Yep. There really is a difference between being a back up goalie and being a #1 goalie. That's why it's laughable when posters want to suggest that Lack outplayed both Miller and Luongo and is therefore the better goalie.

Miller posted his career best SV% in his first season in Anaheim as a backup. His GAA and SV% were better than Gibson's.

Canucks go all-in to make the playoffs, splash out supreme $ on FAs, trade a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and (slightly) possibly a 4th round picks in the last seven months, pack the salary to the rafters guaranteeing this lineup can't be back...then Markstrom goes down for 3 weeks minimum right at the trading deadline.

This is the most Canucks thing ever.

The Canucks drafted a highly rated goalie prospect in 2014 with an early 2nd round pick. They take the time to make sure their young goalie develops his game in the NCAA and then the AHL where he posts outstanding results and earns his spot as a full time NHL backup. Despite the teams defensive struggles, this young goalie boasts a 10-6-2 record. With the postseason berth on the line, the team is well-positioned to test whether the young goalie is ready to take the next step. Odds are, he is.

Markstrom
GS: 43 W: 23 W% 53.5

Demko
GS: 19 W: 11 W% 57.9

We have a better winning percentage with Demko in net. The hockey world that thought the Canucks might slide underestimated Demko; he’s solid.

Demko has beaten St. Louis twice and those are his only wins against playoff teams. He's been given a soft schedule and has done well against mostly bottom-feeders, which isn't what he's going to be looking at going forward.

Valid points, but it’s similar for a lot of backups around the league and usually their winning percentage is lower.

Ha, so he has. Neither was in a playoff position last time I quoted this stat a week or two ago. Man, is Arizona taking a dump down the standings right now.

I don't find that shocking at all considering they have no top line center. They were always pretenders with that center group.

Edit: off topic.. feel free to delete.

well the stats showed he outplayed him the outrage was as benning said “he got a better offer for miller” but decided to keep him to push for the playoffs

Well in Miller's first year in Anaheim, the stats showed that the then 37 year old outplayed or was every bit as good as John Gibson. It's much easier to put up good stats as the backup goalie. Canucks fans have consistently held affection for backup goalies here for decades.

Is deja vu happening all over again..... Will Demko turn this team into a Schneider/Luongo goalie controversy again.....

Update is consistent with what we already suspected to be true. As expected, Demko is the undisputed starter for the foreseeable future.
