Palmieri barely killed penalties in the last two seasons, his PK TOI in 2018-19 was 20:52 and in 2019-20 it was 15:01. This season it’s already at 8:37.

Palmieri has never even been a main PK guy, the closest he came would ge in 2016-17 when he was 5th in TOI (77:12) and 7th in TOI/GP (0:59). So everyone here is not crazy, this is a odd new thing that sure looks like it’s not working.

Of course Coleman, Rooney and Anderson are all gone and Nico is injured, so someone newish has to do it. McLeod never killed penalties in his previous call-ups but I’d like see him and Bastian get a shot at PK. Anyone but Palmieri is intriguing at this point, but maybe he’ll improve.

Bratt killed penalties in 2017-18 but then got kicked off of PK and didn’t do it at all in the last two seasons. Maybe he’ll get another shot though.

He got kicked off of the PK because Hynes is a moron.

Speak not of Coach Who Must Not Be Named. (Get it? Because John Hynes looks like Voldemort. Also because he’s terrible)
For all the tire pumping some do with the Rangers, I am not really seeing it. At least not from their young guys.

Fox is definitely a quality player, but he isn't some super stud top pairing guy. I am assuming Kakko will figure it out, but have seen zero flash from him so far. Chytl is nothing special. Miller has some good tools but idk if he is going to put them all together.

Then you got Andersson who is a bust. Kravstov seems on the road to bust town. Strome isn't very good. They are paying Trouba a whole lot of money to be pretty damn mediocre.

Laffy is certainly legit, but outside of that this team is basically Bread, Zibanjed, and a hot goalie.

Those two are really really good. No debate there, but how is that going to work long term?
Chytil is a solid bottom six center, but between him and Andersson they really screwed up that first round. Buchnevich has also been good for them, if a bit misused by coaching. Kakko has also been disrespected by coaching, and I can’t imagine that’s good for his confidence. I wouldn’t sleep on Miller, either. He’s pretty damn smart and adaptable, and I can see him stepping his game up sooner rather than later.

I can’t disagree much with the rest of your post, though. In particular, Trouba was hot ass tonight, and he was supposed to really charge that blue line corps.

One more stinky game from Palms and its time to shave that beard.

I think he should go the Zidlicky handlebar route.

I am happy Jack is producing even tho his overall gameplay is not close to 1C. Still, he has talent and is clearly a player that could become a star forward in the long run.

With 50 shots against you aint gonna win too many games. Its especially nice for the fan base to be excited about the team and the future, even tho reality check will probs come before or at least in February.

And most importantly, beating the Rags is always sweet!

My concern is with the Devils. 47 shots is a bad sign. Blackwood won’t finish out the season if this continues. I understand all the pp’s we handed them and that hast to stop as well because our pk sucks right now. I’ll take the win and run with it. Between Hughes and Blackwood it looks like we have two future superstars. Something to look forward too and enjoy.

What in the world?? He’s literally dominating games, driving play, scoring goals, setting guys up, making good defensive plays...

He is not just producing off some lucky bounces or secondary assists. He was the best player on the ice last night in a game that had a superstar playing in it on the other team.

About the only legitimate criticism right now is he’s not winning face offs.

Just looking at game stats...and hold on - did the Rangers actually put 50 shots on our net? did they shoot every time they crossed the red line??

Game highlights are mostly from the Devils too, so must be they hardly made it into our D zone. Are we THAT good?

Palms was much better today, don’t know what y’all saw. Someone pull up the underlying numbers from the game, I bet you he is near the top on the team tonight.
I think there's a bunch of underlying numbers that would be interesting to see from last night; might give us some better understanding of why some of us saw Palms and Subban as having decent games while others thought their mistakes stuck out too much. Plus, I keep saying that despite the Rags getting 50 shots it just felt like the chances they actually generated outside of the powerplay mostly weren't that great, but I can't say that for sure unless I see some better stats.

The shots against from last night sort of make sense...the rangers had 6 PP opportunities and were playing catch-up the entire game.

New Jersey out shot NYR 10-7 in the first when the game was still in question. Then 3 consecutive calls against in the 2nd and 3 calls against and none for us in the third all while protecting a lead...shots are going to pile up.

The rangers were an off sides call away from getting their doors blown off in the 2nd period.

My take: The Devils outfoxed a physically stronger team with the upcoming super-talent of Jack Hughes, some new faces in the line up, and what appears to be a very talented goalie. The Rangers GM definitely built a solid team and appear to have gotten better. The one thing that kept my sanity when we were being pressured, was we won without Hischier or Bratt. When they come back we will be even better.:thumbu:

You’re going to lose more often than not when the PPs are 6 to 2 in your opponents favor.

So while it wasn’t a pretty game I’ll take it.

At some point Blackwood won’t stop pucks at a rate greater than the greatest goaltending season of all time. At that point the Devils need to be putting the puck in the net more often or preventing more shots.
