Wasn't soft, but he also was tracking the puck horrbily, as usual.
I can't in good conscience ding him on that goal, but man if you saw how slow he moved. It's not even like he gave up and didn't try, he was moving, it was just in really slow motion. He looked like a really old man. Like a goalie playing in an alumni game. That just speaks to his (lack of) mobility right now. He just looks like a broken windshield wiper in net or a wheel that's ready to fall off the car. Or a disabled aircraft trying to land.

Give me an example of an assistant anywhere in the NHL getting fired in-season where the head coach wasn't.
was curious if its happened before - i guess you're right, since usually the coach will take the blame of the staff as well, and would most likely not throw them under the bus, so i get what you're saying. but there's this?

even if it hasn't happened before though, it still could

That was after their season had ended.

Which I think is the earliest you'll see Nasreddine fired, unless he goes with Hynes sometime this season.

Comparing either Cory OR KK to prime Marty is a disservice. CORRECT Not to mention prime Marty didn't have to play in front of teams like this. NOT CORRECT He had his share The one time Marty had to play on a team this bad, he looked just as bad as either goalie - granted it was in his late 30's when he was even getting benched for a little while after Lemaire came back. EXACTLY CORRECT It was not Prime Marty.

Sorry I was to lazy to type. LOL

Wrong. I'm not going to get into a Marty argument but prime Marty could flat out steal games and keep us in the race when the rest of the team sucked. Many times this team just plays with the puck and would rather make a pretty pass then getting it to the net. SHOOT THE DAM THING.

Umm...... Prime Marty played with multiple HALL OF FAME DEFENSEMEN.

The Devils defense was generally #1 to #4 in the entire NHL for prime Marty.

On this team only Vatanen & Mueller play something that could be termed as resembling NHL defense.

Greene is a shell of himself and rapidly deteriorating at 36 years old.
Lovejoy is pretty bad, and no better than a #6/#7 at roughly 35 years old
Butcher tries, but is not defensively sound and has much to learn of the NHL game.
Severson doesn't even try, because he's dreaming of scoring his first NHL hat-trick every night.

It really cannot be overstated what a "joke" the Devils defense is. It's embarrassingly terrible. The odd thing is, the first 7 or 8 games of the season they didnt look bad.

Shero needs to fire both of them honestly, like tonight. Their lack of adjustments and insistance on and just ramming through their "strategy", even when the other teams are countering it and it's clearly not working, will drag this losing streak out longer. And it will be just last their last 4 years here. Hot start, huge losing streaks with a win or two in between them, and the staff not fixing anything besides line changes.

Is Larry Robinson still coaching or is he retired completely?. I know he's getting up there in age.

Comparing a 32 year old who has clearly lost some of his mobility (likely due to injuries) to arguably the greatest goaltender of all time seems like an exercise in futility.

Cory hasn't been an elite goalie in 2+ seasons. Expecting him to play like an elite goalie when the team in front of him is a collective shitshow seems equally as futile.

Plus, we just got lit up with Kinkaid in net the game before, so either they both suck (which may not be far from the truth) or there are bigger issues with the team. You can't expect a past his prime goalie and a guy who was a career backup until 40 games ago to stand on their heads to bail out clusterf*** play from the 18 guys who play in front of them.

devils had 23 scoring chances and jets had 20

this game wasnt as lopsided as ppl want you to believe. wasnt as close as im making it out to be either.

The Jets took their foot off the pedal in the 3rd.

Devils had some good chances, but their issues are on the defensive end.

I'm not a coach, but here's some interesting points

0:18: Severson has the puck and just throws it up the boards. Why? Then what the hell was Boyle doing? Hard to blame Cory, that was a perfect shot

0:46: Vatanen didn't know what the situation was. Palmieri doesn't push the end line and gives the puck up.Greene gets caught looking up ice, blows a tire, then mixes up his assignment with Zajac. Where the hell is Hall?

2:15: Lovejoy in no man's land. Again, where is Hall?

2:32: Greene overpursues

2:57: Greene overpursues again

3:55: Greene coughs up the puck, then pursues his guy to the wrong side of the ice almost near the blue line. WTF?

4:29: Delayed penalty 5 vs 6. Gap controls look bad. Too many open spaces.

4:50: Why is Hall going off on a change? Seriously?

5:02: Severson trying a long pass, with a Jet nearby? Why?

5:10: Seney should have drawn a tripping penalty, but the refs are asleep. Yakovlev chases high, gets burned.

6:00: Coleman chases to the corner but MarJo doesn't help out.

7:16: Palms loses his guy. Glorious chance.

7:30: MarJo sees four guys, why doesn't he pass it back?

7:57: Palms overpursues. Zajac loses his guy

8:15: Wood not taking away the passing lane

Hall and Greene were tire fires. Seney can't hold on to his stick. Jets got some good bounces.

They're panicking in the defensive zone.

butcher is a niche player... might be worth moving to a team where he is a better fit... ty smith and butcher in same lineup won't work.. move him now. while he has value

Very true but please don't move Butcher now and call up Smith... he's doing great things as a captain and I don't want that ruined by coming into this crap show. Let him mature as a leader of the team and in scoring and bring him in when this mess is cleaned up a bit.

I don't think Hynes is in danger yet, but we'll have to see in a month from now.

It all depends. At some point, Shero will have to fall on a sword. If he fires Hynes and the next coach does poorly for the rest of this year, then Shero looks worse.

I've always been of a mind that Hynes is not the guy that we want here when we're contending.

And Shero needs to make a lot of moves this offseason, or else then you gotta start to question what his plan is. A 5+ year rebuild?

They're panicking in the defensive zone.

As much as I've defended Hynes over the last couple years, I think that panic is coming from the top on down. The coaches seem to have no answers besides sitting one guy and playing another. And I don't think they're even sitting the right guy. I get that you want Butcher for the PP, but if you're trying to send a message, scratching a guy who has played well but leaving one who hasn't in just for the PP probably isn't the way to send a message. Not that I necessarily think we'd have won with Mueller, but it's still bizarre (and likely desperate) decision.

At the same time, the players need to play with some f***ing pride. There's no excuse for them to be playing this poorly, even if the coach isn't icing the optimal lineup. They had success last year because everybody pulled their weight and they were a pain to play against. Even when they were struggling they didn't look this bad.

I honestly don't know what the answer is. If we fire Hynes, who replaces him? I know Q is out there, but I don't know if he'd want to coach this team. Does anybody think Kowalsky is a better option? Or do we need a personnel shakeup?

It's just bizarre how far they've fallen the last 11 games.

It's very rare that an assistant goes mid-season, without a head coach also going.

I think when/if Hynes goes, that's when Nasreddine will go, unless it's after this season and Hynes survives it, but Shero takes one of his assistants as a ''Warning, you'll be next' move.
I agree. Nasreddine was with Hynes at Wilkes-Barre. These two will be tied together.

I've actually always questioned Hynes rationale for sitting people. I think he's usually made the right personnel decisions (especially with goaltending), but sometimes and particularly during stretches like this, he'll make bizarre lineup decisions with the skaters. I noticed that in 2016-2017. If the team is blown out one night, he'd scratch a guy who didn't play poorly or do anything wrong in the game before. Almost like making a change just to make a change.

Why not? He didn't get sent down after the season started and he could have stayed up all year.
We can't call up a WHL player after we send him down. There may be a loophole, like some kind of emergency callup or calling him up while he was supposed to be a the world juniors or something like that, but I don't think we qualify for any of them, and even if we do, I think it's only for a game or two.

So basically in the last 6 games we lost, we allowed 33 goals..

And I mean I really want to know what Mueller is thinking right now after seeing the game from the press box. He must think Hines is a ****ing idiot

He must also think that Cory's just not pulling his weight like he should.

Of course he wouldn't say that out loud but I'm sure he's thinking "man...it would sure be nice if we got a few more key saves here or there, Cory".

look how much the jets sat back after the 4th/5th goal.

That graph also represents Devils fans' CONFIDENCE from the Beginning of the game.....to the end.
