Miles is a bonehead. The total package, with the hockey Brain the size of a tic-tac. The only way to get Miles Wood off the team should be through a trade. GMs/Coaches love guys like Wood, and are willing to put up with his recklessness. With all things considered it would be hard for the Devils to part with him.

Hynes post game presser is revealing as well. Sometimes good players get stashed for future considerations. Seney, McLeod, Maltsev might make it tough on the organization but in the end the can play for Bing and provide valuable depth.

But these preseason games are important? Heck yeah.
What? Where have I mentioned the preseason? You just can't take it that you're using extrapolated stats without context like they actually mean anything. Wood has no discernible hockey skill, is a volume shooter, is soft and is fast in a straight line. He's nothing. He's JAG. Deal with it.

This is utter nonsense and completely invalidates what you’re trying to say. He’s literally a 4th liner and produces quite well given his lack of ice time. What context do you need? It’s just the rate that he produces when he’s on the ice. He’s a fine 4th liner, isn’t overpaid and we aren’t in a cap pinch now. This is a ridiculous discussion given all of the amazing things happening with this team.
He's making almost $3 Million to be a 4th liner with no discernible NHL skill but, sure, he's not overpaid.

Wood's 'discernible' skill is so easy to figure out. His straight line top speed is top 10 in the NHL and he's big and besides the breakaways he's frequently on he's able to generate a lot of shots on goal.

Imagine having a team where Miles Wood is the guy that everyone's shitting on instead of the host of whipping boys that this franchise has had the last decade.

We’ve finally reached the average talent floor of NHL teams. So yes, Wood should continue getting all of the smoke.

When we haven’t even played a single actual game and we don’t know if any of the other guys fighting for that spot are anything? Seems silly. Two solid seasons are worth more than a handful of preseason games.

Did anyone notice that our 4th line kept getting trapped playing against the Barzal line. Not sure if Hynes purposely left those guys out there to see what they can do? Found it strange and scary that Hynes continued to let that happen. He may be a great communicator, I just don’t think he’s a good coach.

I have to say in Miles defense that his speed helps keep defenses honest as he is always a breakaway threat, and is occasionally able to negate icing when he misses the long outlet pass.

People are going crazy over Myles Wood? He’s a perfectly fine bottom #6 winger. The fact that rookies who are playing for their careers are playing well in a bunch of exhibition games is great news but we shouldn’t be tossing Wood aside because of that.

Yeah they got caved in (New Jersey Devils Survive Onslaught from New York Islanders in 4-3 Preseason Win).

I don't think Hynes would normally put them out there while having last change so I'm guessing he was experimenting. That also seems to be the case with a lot of these lines we're seeing. As a Hynes critic, I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He isn't player against players who necessarily are going to have the ability to maintain possession in the offensive zone. If he is playing with Boqvist and Zacha for example, I think he will have much more success.

Ya mentioned it above, more then half the minutes played by the Wood Rooney Hayden line were against the Barzal line. Played more against the Isles top line, then any other Devils line did. And they did get beat up possession wise.

Given it is preseason, I don't think it is scary.

So what was Hynes doing? Merely a one off as he considered that our best defensive line? Truly testing to see if Rooney Hayden have the makings of competent defensive fwds? We saw Wood with Zajac quite a bit last year on a defensive line with good results, so he has shown trust in him before in that role, could he possibly earn time there again this year? He could, but he does need to play better then he has.

I agree it would be hard for team to part from Wood, and for fans too. Just how he's been the hard to dislike, happy-go-lucky bruiser speed guy who we all hoped would put all the tools in the toolbox, and really take huge leaps. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be happening, and I agree with the posters here looking for better options soon.

You got guys behind him who are playing really well (McLeod), and new guy ahead of him already (Boqvist), and a guy who look very intruiging (Maltsev, who also has size, but maybe offensive/defensive hockey IQ -- small sample size)

I wouldn't part with Wood without fair return, but if there is a guy who is a clear and total upgrade over him (for similar role/ growth expectations), I don't think the team should cling onto Wood for emotional reasons. He's a nice guy in lockerroom, has some hockey talent, but maybe a limited or peaked development path. I do agree his hockey smarts is not the highest, but the question is can it improve? We will find out soon.

I really think one of Coleman, Zacha, or Wood is going to be dealt for a defender soon similar to the Henrique deal. Wood would be the preferred option, but I'm not sure Bratt is safe either, but it would have to be a very good defender for him.

With Boqvist impressing and Maltsev, McLeod, Bastian, Seney, and Anderson all showing they could be quality depth options if need be, we can likely afford to part with someone.

The one thing we're desperately missing right now is a smooth skating two-way LD preferably with some size and reach to play with Subban. Up front, we have way too many bodies, something has to give.

i’m honestly just glad mcleod looks like an nhl player now. he’s going to be a really good 3rd line center for the franchise or an excellent 4th line center depending on what happens with zacha. we’re going to be very strong down the middle for a long time

Here are your leading goal scorers for the last two years combined.

NHL.com - Stats

Miles Wood is 6th.

Edit:
Hischier has fractionally scored more goals per game than Wood.

I really don't think he's looked like an NHLer. He's been pretty bad and got a couple lucky goals

I have been overly impressed with Hughes...Gusev not so much.... I mean, the expectation should be higher for Gusev a 27 year old, 10 year veteran of the KHL.
