As for Bratt, the only reason i can see for him getting less mins is because they saw how he died out toward the end of last season. I know that he got into better condition this offseason but then he was out for a while. It could be something as them simply managing his minutes at the moment to make sure she does get as worn down in the second half. Again this is just an theory , Im not trying to make excuses for anyone.

Even if this is the reason, it's still a stupid move by Hynes. Bratt was working on his conditioning and endurance so he wouldn't fade.

I think Hynes is just being the same clueless numbskull we all know "love"...to poop on.

Wood and Butcher are two guys I absolutely would trade for D help.

I like Butcher, but I don’t see him ever being more then the PP guy he currently is. It’s a good skill, but a bit of a luxury for us as we have other guys in Vats and Severson or can handle that, and guys in the pipe like Smith and Walsh as well.

any combination of wood, butcher and picks for a solid top 4 d and/or second liner would be amazing

Severson can't QB a PP.

Yeah he is playing better now so the temptation is to try him again in that role but he will still be terrible as he was in that role pre-Butcher. He doesn't have the smarts to do it. He can shoot and that is about it.

After seeing the Leddy goal again, it wasn’t as bad of rebound as I originally thought. The only rebound goal I think I slammed against either goalie this year was the game winner on Cory against Detroit. That wasn’t even really a rebound, as he gloved it (or it possibly squeaked through his arm if it didn’t fall out of his glove and into the crease) and it laid in the crease for the easy tap in.

I would actually argue that the rebound before the second Islanders goal might have been worse. That appeared to go in his belly and fall out, which led to a goal a few seconds later.

Plus I think the PP runs better when you've got Palmieri on the left, Butcher at the top, and Hall on the right. When they stick to it anyway. They seem to alternate between that and having Palmieri and Hall on their normal sides, which doesn't seem as effective.

Although if Smith makes the team next year he could probably replace Butcher in that spot.

If pressed to defend it I bet Hynes would say he doesn't put Bratt out in OT and late in the game because he doesn't want a failure to affect Bratt's confidence. LMAO that's how stupid he acts with personnel decisions sometimes. Throw the inferior vet out because if they fail, they can handle it.

Of course. *headshake*

Other than Bratt not getting any time, I actually didn't have a problem with the personnel choices in OT. Palmieri just f***ed up. And Hall skating himself into being covered by two players when it's 3-on-3 was kind of dumb too. Although most of the roster was dumb tonight, so they weren't the only guilty ones. Clean your shit up boys. It's really not that hard.

Bratt getting his minutes limited in games where we are losing most of the game makes no f***ing sense. I would understand cutting his minutes back when defending leads, but why bench one of your better offensive players when you need goals?

Have you seen him play?

Of course I have seen him play but then you should know the answer to your question, so why ask? I can't have an opinion of someone intelligence because I lack the facts. As for how a player plays I have an opinion based on what I see but it has nothing to do with his intelligence. What are his IQ test results that you are using to state he is "dumb"?

On a positive note from attending yesterday, I got my mystery puck from Boyle’s son Declan and gave him a high five. Kid’s adorable.

+1 here with a fist bump. Call me sappy, but it was a thrill to see him there. The puck we got was a Boyle :) (go figure). Went around a 2nd time and got another fist bump from Declan, then headed down to Coleman's fiancee Jordan and asked her for help with finding a Blake puck. Ask with a smile and you shall receive!

Came away with the Boyle, Coleman and a Seney. And definitely a nice touch having the pucks in the clear puck cases this year. :)

This is a big test for Hynes to show how he is able to adapt because the past few seasons he held everybody from top to bottom accountable for their actions pretty consistently whether it was Hall or Severson and even Lovejoy to a lesser extent. That portion of his coaching was nice to see with his system related philosophies questionable as they are still today.

Now that things haven't been going to plan, we have seen much less of that accountability being held for several players. Maybe it has to do with the fear of the team taking a big step back because this was the year to take a big step forward from the one prior. Those prior 3 seasons were largely a 'we have nothing to lose' type of mentality so the accountability was something that could more easily be held but some of these personal decisions seem out of panic and not what Hynes has typically done here.

Hynes can either adapt by understanding that the team he has wasn't built to sustain if everything doesn't go right and continue to coach with that accountability type mindset he had shown, and sticking with the we still need to build plan (or in cheesy terms 'trust the process') or he can adapt by trying to go a different course than what has mostly worked the past couple of seasons with similar thin rosters. We've seen more of the latter. Either way we'll still likely see similar results because this roster is just not build on a sturdy foundation, however it'll be better to at least see more the best guys getting the proper time.

So I was watching the OT game winner. I sure seems like the Islanders could have been called for too many men on the ice.

Barzel jumps on and the guys he replaced was on the other side of the redline.

That screen shots is also a couple of strides after Barzel was on the ice, so the other guy was deeper as well.

In the second one, this is just before Palmieri loses the puck. He should have event tried.
