I just forgot about Patty, I guess he's done for the season and his career it really makes me sad that he went out this way :( if he does replace someone in the lineup I really don't see him doing much

I disagree. I would love for Patty to come in and REPLACE JJ because let's face it(and BLEEDRED would agree) :

An OLD Patrik Elias is still eons better than a young JJ.

Patty could still help this team if he's healthy. Obviously that's the big question, but if I think he can help this team. The injury bug will eventually hit. Bennett will miss time, JJ will miss time, Cammy will miss time. Patty could come in handy at some point.

^ this is why I'm not buying that Patty would just retire like this without going out on HIS OWN terms.

Watch him come back for the 2nd half of this season when, as you said, the injury bug inevitably hits the Devils.

So you want Patty to sit in the press box instead of JJ? Or really sit WITH JJ in the press box?

When injuries happen, I'd love for this to happen if possible. Where Patty is playing, I mean. Not sitting in the box with JJ.

Luckily for now, JJ can sit in the box.

He is definitely a guy I would love to have around our young forwards.

Even if his body can't do it anymore, he is still one of the smartest players around.

I don't see him as falling off to the level of Zubrus in 2013-2016 or god forbid Ruutu of last year. I think he might not be great at offense, but he can still contribute a little bit.

It does feel like Patty is going to want to give it one more go.

I imagine Shero obliges him. It won't hurt to have him around and he could potentially help

I always figured there was a good chance that Shero would point blank tell him that his services are no longer needed or wanted here. I mean particularly after last season ended, and him telling Patty that he wasn't bringing him back.

But I think the fact that they're allowing him to use the team locker room with his own stall, use team practice facility to work out and skate and sit in on team meetings without a contract, shows that he hasn't closed the door on bringing him back and I'd even lean towards him wanting to bring him back if he was healthy right now.

In the past, we never let players who weren't under contract skate at the practice rink (unless it was offseason), and sit in on meetings, have their locker stall right in the main locker room, etc. And I know it's a new regime, but I don't think hardly any teams let players do that if they don't have some interest in signing them eventually and being a part of the team. We did let Marty train at our facility before getting signed by St Louis, but that was only when we were on the road and he wasn't using the main locker room or sitting in the main locker room or sitting in on team meetings, etc. And that was also Lou, who would probably only do that for Marty. He'd probably do it for Patty too, but knowing Lou, I don't think he'd have him in the room like that unless he planned on eventually signing him if possible.

If he can play I don't see why they wouldn't want him back. Even at his age Elias is probably still a better option than like half of the bottom 6. Him and Zajac and whoever on a third line would cause all kinds of match up problems for other teams.

Shero knows what Patty has been to this franchise.

He respects that (I know some didn't think he did in the past) and I also believe he has a ton of respect for Patty as a player. Honestly who wouldn't?

I never personally doubted or questioned his respect to franchise icons or vets, but it seemed like he might tell Patty he's no longer needed after his contract ended.

Now it seems he's going out of his way to actually have him around the team. And when I say going out of his way, I don't disagree with it or think that he should be shunning him.

He could be good insurance for when injuries happen. I'd rather him than JJ or Kalinin, or probably any of the the guys that get called up. I think JQ and Wood need some AHL time, same with Blandisi.

Severson has been about the same as he's been the last 2 years. Flashes some ability on both ends of the ice but he remains largely inconsistent. He seems to have at least one mind-numbing goof every game.

I say if you can trade Severson, Quennville, and another piece for Lindholm out in Anaheim you try for it.

I don't think people realize how good he is and he'd be our #1/#2 here. Whether Anahiem does that(doubtful) is another story.

If they did, then you go get Shattenkirk out of St. Louis next offseason and then we have a pretty good defense for the future.

Agreed. People are gushing about him again and I just don't see it. Yes he has 4 assists. Way to go bud, but his shot is Rafalski-esque (weak and scares nobody) and his defense is meh. Good at times, bad at times.

When's the last time he scored a goal? It feels like it's been a calendar year lol.

He's fine for a 22 year old but I certainly don't understand the gushing either.

I don't really see people gushing over him. I think it's more of just a pushback on those who say he isn't very good every single time he makes a mistake.

Quoted for truth. For the most part, there is more gushing about Auvitu around here than there is about Severson, and if Severson is indeed fine, don't know why there is so much negative harping about him.
