Pete does lots of dumb things but how exactly do you coach a shooter on the shootout?

"umm shoot the puck"?

It's purely a read the goalie and shoot on net play. Pete can't tell them to try a spin-o-rama if they don't feel it. He can't tell them to shoot 5 hole ahead of time - it has to be there in the instant they go in on the shot.

He can't coach it, he can only select the guys he thinks are most likely to score and given our horrible rate of scoring on it in practice that would mean Volchenkov is shooting first next time.

It's a damn gimmick anyways and a horrible way to determine wins. If I had my way you could only get 2 pts from winning in regulation or OT. Shootout wins would be 1 pt and the loser would get nothing. No more damn 3 pt games and teams playing it safe the final 5 minutes and in OT to secure the loser point. They'd be forcing plays on net to not lose out on points.

I want Josefson or Tedenby in for Olesz. Keep the kids in on D.

Nearly ideal lineup, since he'll keep CBGB together.

I just wish overtime was 10 minutes of 4 on 4. You'd have a winner more often and the shootout would become more rare.

Yeah, the shootout choices were completely nonsensical. I thought it was hilarious when Chico was trying to rationalize the list. "Oh well, ya know, you might have thought that Pete DeBoer would go with players with some more offensive skill, but..."

A guy like Loktionov who actually has the coordination to pull off some of those dekes would be nice to see. Even Zubrus has better hands than Zajac.

Jersey, when *CHICO* of all people can recognize when a coach Fubar's, then you know that this guy has got to go.

Exactly what I thought. Gelinas was so much more free, which Larsson figured **** it, let me do what you're doing. Worked well for the both of them, was very impressed.

Don't get used to it. Once he gets more familiar with DeBoer's "system" he'll take a few steps back, just like Loktionov, Henrique, Zajac, Larsson, Kovy, the list goes on...

Kovy was awesome in 10-11 under DeBoer, not sure where you're getting that from. Henrique has only played under DeBoer, so I'm not sure how he took a "step back" from nothing. He actually was a Calder finalist under DeBoer. Similarly, Loktionov has only been here under DeBoer and he has actually had played relatively well.

When Pete said "I don't care about Larsson's goals or assists. I just down want him to be -5 or -6 in 4 games" I lost it.

Does he even know how +/- works?

Can't blame this one on Pete entirely but, as a coach, you play a part in every win/loss. Pete's errors were minor enough though that I can't solely kill him for the loss like I usually do.

Kovy was awesome in 10-11 under Lemaire. DeBoer didn't arrive until 11-12 and I don't really count that year because I give most of the credit to Robinson and Oates.

Who are we annoyed that he picked? Only one I can guess is zajac. It can't be Henrique because everyone was calling him ah idiot for not using him in the last tie shootouts. People wouldn't flip flop just to get an excuse to hate on Pete... Right?

Remember in OT he initial just gave the puck up, something you never do 4 on 4. Someone must have told him to never do that again because he did skate the puck in the nucks zone the next time he had the puck. We need to generate mor offense from our defense to make the playoffs and that's going to be up to the kids, Gelinas, Larsson and Merril.

The kids want to play that way. Its up to Pete to let them. I think Larsson dumped it in the first time because he had no passing options and has been told he's not allowed more than 4 ft inside the blue line. The next rush he might as well have given Pete the finger as he carried the puck into the zone, below the dot, then made that nice pass to Jagr. That's the kind of thing he did as a rookie. Fearless. Sure it comes back to bite you sometimes but you have to play your game. DeBoer took Larsson's game away from him. Gelinas may have inspired him to take it back.

I think I had Pete's brother for a gym teacher, when I was a little kid in grade school I scored a ton of goals playing D. The gym teacher scolded me and told me I wasn't allowed to go across the red line any more, defenders aren't supposed to do that.
