Well the Devils deserved that win. Clearly outplayed the Oilers in this game. Mclellan will need to get back to the drawing board.

the only way Benning should be on the 2nd pairing is if it’s in the AHL. Put Bouchard with Nurse and call up Bear for the bottom pairing.

Hard to say that anyone looked good out there today. Maybe Lucic, he was actually pretty good.

Todd needs to go. No more defending him and his ridiculous line combos and playing players with others when it's just not working. The guy can't come to the conclusion his ideas aren't working and refuses to change

Meh it’s only game 1. Last year they got a big win in game 1 and got complacent. Hopefully this wakes them up early.

Good thing Lucic got a goal and an assist. The guy is good player when he’s confident.

Nice to see Lucic get off the snide early. We're gonna need some production from him this season if there's any hope of the rest of this roster getting off the ground offensively.

That high pressure fore-check they were selling in the preseason was nowhere to be found in the first two periods and our bottom six was completely invisible.

The matinee curse continues.

Dunno how you can scratch Bouchard when Benning played like that.

Put Garrison or Bear in.

I don't understand how a team full of highly paid professionals can have a season like the last one, take a whole summer to reset, and come out looking EXACTLY THE SAME.
Maybe because with the exception of a few deck chairs shuffled at the bottom of the roster its exactly the same team?

It's by and large the same team that was full value for a bottom 10 finish last season.

RNH and Puljujarvi completely invisible, not a peep.

Draisaitl 2 points, torn apart in every other post.

But this board doesnt play favorites or turn it's stars into whipping boys.

Team had 2 whopping scoring chances the entire game without McDavid on the ice.

This team just sucks. Without McDavid they are the worst team in the league.

I'm not throwing it on Talbot but I'm game to see more Koskinen if there's nothing at stake.

1st shot of the season goes in sums this game...hopefully not the season

in any case, they won game 1 last year and we had a horrid season

and that PP won't work...its abysmal

good for Looch on being a bright spot

Edmonton can't make an outlet pass to save their lives and so they insist on using the dump and chase despite not having a forward lineup homogoneously fast enough to pressure the defense or goalie when they're first to the puck. Basically can't gain the zone at all unless it's McDavid or the Nuge carrying it on the rush.

They need some trades and a new coach with a new system, because this year will be the same as last year otherwise.

I think Benning was the difference today. Upgrade him to a legit NHL Dman and we would have won.
Coaching was the other big difference esp line combos

Doesn’t explain why the players at the top of the roster aren’t capable of playing like NHLers for 60 minutes. They didn’t lose today because of the guys at the bottom of the roster. They lost because everyone outside of Lucic sucked.

The team needs a new coaching system rather than new assistant coaches. Even with new assistant coaches, Todd McLellan is still using the same system from last season.

The worst part is Talbot and the special teams. Same as last year. Floored that that the first shot went in yet again.

I’ll be shocked if Lucic-McDavid-Draisaitl aren’t a line in Boston

Sad that Bouchard has already been moved up to carry Nurse because Benning is literally useless.
