We started off last season with a win and looking like the team we were the season prior. Only to shit the bed starting game 2 and miss playoffs.
Maybe this season we start the season off looking like the shitty team we were last season and become good as of game 2?

Like I said at the beginning of last season. With Sekera out and Benning slotted in the Top 4, this team has no chance. Fix that, and maybe, just maybe.

Scanning through some of the comments in the GDT thread made me absolutely disgusted.
Every second post, people slamming Draisaitl, saying ridiculous shit like he's sniffing clovers in the outfield or checking out girls in the crowd.
Yet he scores a goal, gets an assist, and people say shit like "oh, it was all McDavid."
I'm calling it now. He's the next player run out of town.
Unbelievable.

Since 2000 the Oilers have never made the playoffs in a season where they lost the first game.
That may sound like an exaggeration, but I agree. When you have a guy on the ice for 1/3 of the game who flat out sucks it is a huge detriment to the team. He cant cover a guy in the DZone, can’t make a pass to save his life, can receive a pass either.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Well our weakest link plays on our second pairing.

what's funny is that relatively speaking, Lucic had a good game, although objectively he was bad. He was better than a lot of players on the team tonight.

I think it was the 3 PP's we had in the first period.
If we capatilize on those, maybe we win, but it had the opposite affect, it gave the Devils the momentum.

Positives obviously outdone by negatives but ill start there.
Klefbom looked defensively sound. Big upgrade over the start of last year.
Lucic played a good game.
McDavid was great.
Bouchard solid imo.
JP solid.
Draisaitl not good but not bad.
Two biggest negatives from last year goaltending and coaching/PP both on full display.
Talbot didn't play terrible but has to play better for us to win.
Coaching just not good. Not prepared for NJ speed. Plenty of PP opportunities but that top unit is garbage.
Easiest match up to start the year and a full fail. No systems change that I could see at all. Far too much chip and chase. Same terrible PP.
I would honestly fire Mclellan right now. The nhl doesn't allow slow starts and the Oilers looked exactly the same as last year to me. Not enough change for me to even give Mclellan one more game.

He had a couple good shifts when he was paired with McDavid. That’s about the only time it looked like he cared.

Garrison would've been better than Benning. Such a nothing player.
He is paid like an elite player and has been medicore at best. He isn't being run out of town, he is playing bad. Tonight he had his shit carried by McDavid and Lucic
