I really do think, if no better deals are available, a Minnesota/Nashville/Florida will trade back and we can get the pick of the litter including guys like Jarvis Guhle Schneider Mercer Lundell Quinn
But theyd have to love the prospect they are trading up for - though in reality that is always more comforting than just making a pick (knowing the scouts loved the guy so much they traded up for him)
Why is no one talking about torey Krug in free agency?
i am not suggesting to trade MBW for the 11th pick. i try to find out, what keeps people from investing an early first round pick in an elite goalie prospect. is it askarov? is it the russian factor? is it the goalie position? i fully understand the variance from game to game and season to season in goalie performances. but also players have stronger and weaker phases in a season. but other players or the goalie can cover up for them. there is no one behind the goalie to cover up.It was a hypothetical suggested by someone to trade Blackwood for the 11OA
As an Oiler Fan I was hoping to ask a couple of questions.
1) What interest would there be in getting Larsson back...I am actually one of the guys on the Oiler board that values Larsson's play. When he is healthy he can still be a force defensively and he was playing very well this year down the stretch. But with only one year left he might be the guy the team chooses to move on from to make room for some of the young prospects down the line. But I suspect he would be willing to resign with NJ and my guess is that he won't be all that expensive given his lack of offensive production. He may be a great mentor for a kid like Ty Smith who will eventually be a very good NHL defender I expect. If there is interest what sort of return would be available?
2) If the Oilers were interested in Zacha and or Gusev what would be the cost? How would Larsson fit into a deal for either of these two if at all?
Thank you in advance for any thoughts you might have.

i am fan of MBW, but he was also a second round pick and the second goalie taken in his draft year. the reason why nj doesn't have a huge goalie problem is actually, because they drafted one relatively early in 2015. all other goalies in the organisation are rather underwhelming. at a certain point the devils have to invest a little more into the goalie position to ensure to have above average goaltending in most seasons. what below average goaltending looks like and that it lands the team normally in lottery land should devils fans know very well.
I think both us and the other team would be stupid to trade Blackwood for the 11th overall.
No team should trade the 11th overall for him, as he’s not quite proven enough yet and we really can’t afford to do that because we already have some serious goalie depth issues behind Blackwood.
I mean, we would be incredibly stupid to sign Holtby and trading for someone like Jake Allen would also be terrible, as he’s been a bad goalie for several years (had a good year this season) even in St. Louis.
You are missing the boat here. NJ has a near generational durable aging gracefully foundational piece in Schneider and you want to hang onto some 23 year old goalie? Why? Do you expect the wheels to come off the Cory wagon? I don’t see that happening anytime soon. I think he guards the NJ net into his early 40s.
The qualifying round was to make up for the lost regular season games, the Coyotes winning that was the equivalent of late season winning steak that would have gotten them in the weak Pacific top three. It sucks for us but it could have happened without the plague break as well, I can see why the NHL wouldn’t modify the conditional pick (though it would be great if they did).I do think now that its said and done the Devils will have the 3rd upgraded to a 2nd in arbitration. Arizona got destroyed and our pick suffered because of covid - not because of their play. Idk how many other teams lost that much draft stock from the covid situation
Yes but their perk, as is Arizona's chances at the lottery compared to their picks losing lottery chances, were rewarded with playoff births. The Devils lost draft stock for nothing - even though it stemmed from the same situation in the covid cancellation. That is NJ's main argument in receiving some sort of compensation for losing almost ten full spots in the first round for no playing time. The qualifying round was to make up for the lost regular season games, the Coyotes winning that was the equivalent of late season winning steak that would have gotten them in the weak Pacific top three. In terms of winning %, Arizona (.529%) beating Nashville (.565%) is less shocking than Chicago (.514%) beating Edmonton (.585%) or Montreal (.500%) beating Pittsburgh (.623%). Again, it sucks and the Coyotes got completely pantsed by Colorado which makes Nashville’s loss even more pathetic but all three bottom feeders took out three problematic semi-contenders.
Montreal & Chicago lose out on their shots at a lottery pick and their picks fall back after their fluke first round exits so their draft stock took a beating.

They don't even have to take a pick from Arizona. Just add a compensation pick onto the end of the 2nd round or something. It's not that hard but, with it being Buttman and the NHL, they'll make it as difficult as possible.

You mean 2nd rounder? We can only get a 2nd if Hall re-signs.I'd be all for an additional late 2nd-rounder to go along with the late first-rounder.
Definitely not what Arizona would want. You?What would you guys give up for OEL?

My friend, you should start a thread on the main board asking the value of Will Butcher, if there's not one already. Just for mock offseason purposes as a way to feasibly trade him if we need to.What would you guys give up for OEL?
Definitely Gusev for many reasons. The man just makes every line he's on better. Palms scores goals which is nice but when he's not scoring a goal he's a ghost. Gusev on the other hand always sticks out & consistently makes his linemates better. He also plays a game that will age better then Palms. Not to mention Gusev is 2 years younger. Now that Gusev is acclimated to the NHL as long as he gets good linemates & solid ice time he's going to definitely be 70+ points. We haven't even tried him at his natural position or thrown him with Nico yet. There's alot of untapped potential in him.If you can only sign one - Gusev or Palms, who are you signing?
For the whole Arizona - NJ compensation thing. Isn't Arizona already in trouble for the whole illegal testing thing last year? So how about they kill two birds with one stone. To compensate NJ, they upgrade the pick they get from Arizona by one round from where it is supposed to be. Arizona gets punished by giving up a better draft pick. Devils get compensated by receiving a better draft pick from the NHL. Sounds like a good plan to me.
whats a compensation pick?? isnt that a pick from the other team for compensation? Im confusedThey don't even have to take a pick from Arizona.
