There’s not a chance they are going to cancel this season and not award the Stanley Cup. They’ll figure out a way to finish this season and the next. It’ll probably end up being a modified version of what the NHLPA put forward.

I wouldn’t be so sure of that unless they do it in empty arenas. People are going to be terrified of mass congregation after all of this is said and done. Society will be different once this passes and I think the in-person sports experience will be changed for a long time.

Tie is such a baby.

Stevens and the Devils were just smart enough to understand that Stevens spending 5 in the box meant that was 5 less minutes of Stevens being potentially on the ice dictating the flow of the game, whereas I'm sure none of Domi's teams either didn't give a f*** or even notice if he was in the box or locker room for 5 minute stretches.

I expect the exact opposite, actually. I think people are going to be happy to put this behind them, and "business as usual" will be exhilarating.

If we have another home game this season, I'm absolutely going.

I dont understand the need to affect next season

Just cancel the damn thing - who cares if there is no winner for one year?

Management and players do. They've all played near 70 games for this season as it is, nobody wants that to go to waste if it can be helped. Why does it even matter if next season is 60 games or 80 anyway?

$$

more people will attend / tune in for end of season + playoffs than for games 20-40 of next season.

also, cap and escrow are based on hockey related revenue from season before. If you cancel this season, cap is crushed and escrow will be high next year.

Summer is usually booked with music concert tours. You're probably looking at only weekday games.

Thinking they can recoup all of the lost revenue is foolish and messing up next year to fit stuff in is even worse.

Hmmm....I really have no clue.

I know he's an RFA(or at least will be) but that's all I know.

anyone have any idea what a REASONABLE contract for him (bridge, maybe?) would be?

It's been said soooo many times by Devils that played in the 88 playoffs against the Caps that antagonizing Stevens was their strategy because he flipped out so easily and would take lots of penalties. They wanted a player of his caliber off the ice as much as possible. Domi wouldn't understand.

Maybe something along the lines of 3-4 years, 3.5-4 million per year?

Don't want to give him 4 years, that takes him right up to UFA. 2-3 years or 6 years would be my target.
  • $3m x 2/3 years if you're still not sure
  • $5m x 6 years if you're sure
Beginning of the year I would have wanted the 3 year term, end of the year I want the 6 year term.

If there ends up being a compliance buyout, do the Devils use it? Schneider would've been a no-brainer but they might keep him now. Subban is a possibility but you would have to hope for a bounceback.

Ondrej Kase is an interesting comparable. He got 3 years, $2.6M AAV, but that was a couple years ago.

I'd be fine with 3 years, ~$3.75M AAV.

If they keep Schneider then they’re dumb. ESPECIALLY if there’s a compliance buyout.

What sense does it make to buyout Subban over Schneider? Subban is a MUCH better player at his position than Schneider is at his, he’s just greatly overpaid.

Schneider is literally the worst goalie in the NHL if he has a job in it next year, based on the last 4 years AND he’s greatly overpaid. Subban has been bad for one season.

Did we not learn back in October why it was a bad idea to keep Schneider for this year? And you wanna repeat it for next year again, all because of a good 5 game stretch?
