I think he will be gone tomorrow, unfortunately

He may get as much as Palmieri and isnt an engrained in the teams culture - would be a win win over moving Palmieri IMO

Sucks to do it but I very much doubt Gusev re-signs with the way the team is headed
idk if the guy wants to uproot his fam though. you seem to feel strongly about it since you posted it twice

we may play the game of holding onto him if we believe we'll be better next season though. but if he WAS traded, he could theoretically net a haul, if a GM values him enough. we should set the price higher though.

I don't see the value in moving Gusev by the deadline today at all. He doesn't nearly have the track record that Palms does. I would rather give him another year and gauge what his interests are before next year's deadline instead. I don't think his value will suffer by holding onto him into next year.

Bourne: Tom Fitzgerald said the NHL is a 'man's league.' But...

Very relevant article for the crowd who thinks we should sell everyone close to the age of 30

agreed you need grizzle guys in your lineup on a nightly basis to compete. you can start to see the value of that in game like the one against washington.. yes you need your skilled guys but you also need your punishing players and players that are not intimidate. guys like palmeri, serverson, simmonds, garrick, hyden, rooney, zajac etc.. its important.. Hischier is quikcly becoming a player that is displaying hockey toughness. goes into the corners willing to touch the puck first etc.. i really like hischier's game.. i do expect him to put up some bigger offensive numbers moving forward.

To me Gusev seems like the kind of guy that would be hesitant to leave his comfort zone. Took him a bit to get here from the K, and he’s finally settled down here and having success. I would almost bet if we kept him he would be willing to re-sign here.

One more asset we acquired today is not having our kids play with the anchor that was Simmonds. Let the fun mock lineups begin.

Bratt Hischier Gusev
Zacha Hughes Palmieri
Anderson Zajac Merkley
Kuokkanen Rooney Wood

Ok, so!

Between the Hall, Vats, and Coleman trades the Devils got some new young prospects, have more first round draft picks than they've had in over twenty years, and still have Palmieri on the roster heading into next season where hopefully the young guys already here can take another step forward.

With that in mind, guess it's time to spitball if there are ways to build a club that can be at least competitive on the ice next season without sacrificing the future that's starting to build in the prospect pipeline. Not expecting a playoff team given how deadly the Metro is and how much youth we'll be icing soon, but I don't think next season needs to be unwatchable the way the first half of this year was.

It won't be unwatchable because we won't have Hynes or Nas or anyone related to them behind the bench.

We will have a brand new coach, a brand new staff, and a brand new System. (Hope it's Gallant)

There's no upside to making Hughes available for the AHL playoffs. He's not really going to learn anything and even if he lights it up it probably won't give him more confidence that would make him better at the NHL level. He would also be taking a spot from someone who the experience would be more useful for. And there's also the possibility that if he has a poor showing, it brings the boo birds out and makes him less confident.

I don't know - winning at any level is valuable experience...

The next time you dont capitalize the H in Hughes will result in a permanent ban
