He's like the Devils 2018-19 season. Started with a lot of promise and then quickly faded away to being irrelevant.

No. Nobody playing now will burn a year of eligibility. Have to play more than 9 games in a season to burn it and we have less than 9 left this season. Will be like nothing happened.

Then can he play for Spokane and NJ at the same time? Not that NJ is desperate or anything but Connor Carrick is the LD2.

When a player is returned to their junior team (Ty Smith was returned to juniors on September 28th) they are not eligible to play in the NHL until their junior season is over.

I feel like the Devils almost qualified to not having enough healthy skaters in the NHL, AHL, or ECHL to do an emergency recall on Smith.

Even if the NHL team is really bad and the fans need some good reason to watch games beyond the curiosity of which AHL player can carve out a fourth line role? Surely that’s a special exception in the CBA?

I believe there are some exceptional circumstances where a junior player can be recalled temporarily, but I don't know what they are and if that changed with the new CBA.

I believe that exceptional circumstance includes Connor Carrick playing as a LD2.

There are some emergency recall provisions. Unfortunately that led the Canucks to start Michael DiPietro in a game against the Sharks a few weeks back and he got absolutely shelled. Vegas briefly had an emergency callup last year of goalie Dylan Ferguson and he got nine minutes of mop up duty. Toronto called up Nazem Kadri when injuries struck in 2010 and he got to play in one game before being returned.



CapFriendly had a breakdown, although I'd have to look what is different between a regular and emergency callup with an AHL player. I forget if any of the current D are up on an emergency callup.

And I’d rather get no players back than have to take back Dalton Prout with term beyond this year.

You're right - forgot about Carrick.

I wasn't suggesting that Shero should have tried to get players back. Someone asked what the NHL could do about the poor line-ups.

I was watching Office reruns the night of that Calgary game. Kevin spilling the chili almost coincided with the collapse. Seemed like a fitting metaphor for the season.

Glad Nico is back skating. He really was having a solid sophomore year and I think he was taking some strong steps forward.

I cannot wait for this season to end and all of these guys can get refreshed.

As awful as this season has been, our forwards have made me extremely optimistic about the future. We have a good core up front already and could be adding another piece with our first rounder.

The defence NEEDS WORK. We all want a great #1 guy, but I would be so happy if we just had six guys who were serviceable, we could do some damage.
