What was the reason for Mullers month long benching?

It's called a numbers game Jim... did you become a rookie poster overnight?

The staff gave Severson all the chances in the world and they eventually had enough of his BS that they decided to give a shot to a guy who didn't play a game for months, at a very crucial time of the year for us.

Are we benching Greene and Vatanen too? Oh and Zacha cause they all have done it in the past two weeks.

You're doing that thing when you avoid what's been said and just throw out new stuff.

So, just to reiterate, Severson was on the ice for half of Tampa's even strength goals against New Jersey this year.*

Wouldnt have mentioned it if you hadnt brought up his "success" against Tampa.

*EDIT: Actually, it might even be worse than that given NJ outscored Tampa 8 - 4 in non PP goals

I don’t know. Thing with Severson, at least to my eye, is that even when he’s not getting burned, he has too many occasions where he could have easily been. A good example of this was in our last win against Pitt. I mean he was being ultra aggressive pinching in a tied game with very little time left. It’s one thing doing that the first month of the season but in such a critical game, it just showed no awareness whatsoever and there were a couple other instances of this recently. I’m really not surprised he’s been benched.
Did you ever see Severson do that when he was young and stupid under DeBoer or Stevens? No. You did not.
Forget the past staffs, have you seen Severson do that before this year under Hynes?

There is no way you are going to get me to believe that that isn't coming from the coaching staff. That is being directed...there is no way possible Severson is doing that on his own.

Yeah, but what about Moore?!?!?

Sometimes when a silly point is brought up I don't address it...like when a Defender is playing big 5v5 minutes and has a majority of the 5v5 goals scored against... I don't feel the need to research the TOI to dispell the silly superficial point. It becomes cumbersome dispelling nonsense.

But they were must wins... we lose those games and we're on the outside looking in.

Jesus Christ, am I writing in Chinese or you're just avoiding the obvious? Those games, despite the opponents, were our most important games of the entire year.

Purposely avoiding this matter is Jim being Jim. If it'll wreck your point, you'll just keep on harping the same string until it sounds differen... but it won't.

Yeah, they told Severson to pinch like he's the first man on the forecheck... lol.

I think it's a big conspiracy against Severson. They didn't know how to tell him h was being benched for the last stretch of the season, so they told him to dump and chase, giving them a reason to sit his sorry ass.

Thin foil hat, here I come!

I will never understand the bizarre love affair some people have with Severson. If it were any other dman playing as irresponsible as he does...

I remember when people would bitch and moan endlessly about Zidlicky for being poor to average in his own end despite the fact that he consistently made up for it on offense. But Damon takes a wild amount of jackass risks in his own zone regularly without providing nearly as much offense as Zidlicky did, and posters feel the need to defend him like is Erik f***ing Karlsson.

He's on what year four now? Kid better shape up or he will never be anything more than a bottom pairing protected minutes guy.

I mean I certainly hope they’re not instructing him to be THAT aggressive. The play I’m referring to was literally borderline crazy because you could see that it was going to blowup horribly and sure enough Pitt went 3 on 1 and I think Kinkaid came up big.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Severson. He’s just a bit too wild for my liking. Skills are definitely there and I expect him to continue to develop into a very good player. He’s gotta learn to reign it in a bit.

No doubt about it.

So they told him to forecheck, only to scratch him cause he forechecks too much.

Makes perfect sense.

If that's what they want out of their dman, Moore, Vatanen and Butcher would be doing it. You don't run a game plan with one single player and have the rest do something else.

I want Boston for the fact the guys will be extra motivated after what happened to Johansson.

I want Tampa for the fact it could be the most entertaining series of the first round. Wide open.

But now, back to your regularly scheduled programming..

I'm sure there was more than one breakdown but Severson wasn't on the ice for a goal against against Pittsburgh. If I recall correctly...in fact, I believe he led the team in 5v5 minutes and was a +2 in the game you are talking about.

I'm sure he wasn't scratched for thst...in fact, I would bet on it.

Hynes used the words "egregious turnovers" in the Islander game when talking about why he was scratched.

He was scratched for play in his own zone. Not joining the play... I would bet that is being encouraged.

It's called being OBSERVANT and pointing out the obvious.

It's not Hate.

If it was Hate, we'd be on his case even if he was doing everything right and never making a mistake.
It’s not being observant. Saying Severson was awful last game, was not as good as Mueller, and showed that he shouldn’t be in the lineup is simply detached from reality.

Because Kinkaid saved his ass like 5x, if not more.

You need to start watching our games and cut down on the stats, you might understand why he's not playing.

You can have a couple of pts and play a terrible game... again, pretty surprised that you're making rookie comments as if you don't know the game at all.

Didnt consider it, so I just looked it up for ***** & giggles.

Moore was also +2 against Tampa this season. LOL

Here's the entire defense versus the Lightning this season.

Butcher +4
Mueller +2
Moore +2
Lovejoy +2
Vatanen +1
Santini +1
Severson -2
Greene -3

Nobody cares about our last game... not even our coaching staff and that's why Hall, Vatanen, Zajac and Kinkaid weren't playing and we saw Hayes, Stafford, Schneider and Severson.

He could've racked up 10 pts yesterday, he still wouldn't make the opening roster come Thursday.

Yup; Severson was +2 that game.

It's also a game in which with the game tied, Mueller mysteriously took Severson's spot with Moore for the final 2.5 minutes of the game.

Now put out there 5v5 minutes... it'll closely mirror the list is my guess.
