With Toronto being at 45 points and having a game in hand on us, that puts us essentially 6 games back. With Florida not being terrible and having 4 games in hand and already having 43 points, we could be looking at 51 points with the Rags having as much as 56 points with games in hand. Short summary: Not happening. Too big of a climb with too many teams in front of us that aren't terrible. Sure, the Leafs will collapse as they always do but Florida has some pieces coming together and as much as it pains me to say it, the Rags aren't a train wreck. The reality is, within 10 games we will be to a point where any mind, reasonable or unreasonable, will have to accept the fact that while not mathematically eliminated we are eliminated. Hopefully Lou is using this transition/evaluation period to get an idea of what he wants to do going forward.
