Yeah, I dunno, I think today it was just Detroit's key players outplaying the Caps' best players, that was the difference.

Sloppy play.. yeah, but for example Bura's first game against Datsyuk/Zetterberg line.. not gonna make a big deal out of that. The vets need to be better, well, I have more faith in Trotz than previous coaches that he is not going to leave that alone.

Ovi and Backstrom need to get going, somehow.

Green looked good. Kuz looked good.

They need to figure out how to score goals. I know some people are gonna claim Howard played out of his mind, but I didn't see him standing on his head. At all. Same as the Vancouver game where people claimed it was Miller. Ya but Miller didn't do much in that game.

Its the same story every game now. They will look good in the 1st, but the other team will 'weather the storm'. By the 3rd, the other team will have figured out what to do against them and we'll get dominated.

If I were Trotz, I'd give Peters the start for next handful of games.

Your right about scoring. We seem to be squeezing the stick a lot the last couple games, pucks over the net, or either square in the gut. Might also be i'm getting tired of watching troy shoot the puck.

oh, and more bad turnovers from Carlson leading to goals.

He's been atrocious all season.

Am i seriously the only one that noticed the defensive coverage on the game-winning goal? It was 1-on-4 when Abdelkader jumped from the bench and yet they threw him the red carpet to walk right into the slot.

That's because Datsyuk drew everybody to him like he does when he's on fire like he was in the third period of this game.

4th Datsyuk just sniped, maybe some bigger goalie could have it, but 95 percent of goalies wouldn't

Strongly disagree. Datsyuk had the puck forever, barely moved, and sure, it was a good wrist shot, but my lord, Holtby really ought to have had the short side well covered by the time Datsyuk finally let go. Holtby looked like he was tired and lost his focus. It looked like a mental mistake as much as anything else. I would hardly call that shot a laser that beats 95% of league's goalies

Does anyone else feel Trotz and his useless line changes during a game are annoying. We played well for 2 periods and after one mistake, he decides to put Nicky back with Ovi. It really is tough to play with new line mates every game.

Sure we're trying to find chemistry but changing the lines in the 3rd period were unneeded. We were outplaying them the whole game at that point.

Just something I observed.

Constant line changes, Beagle and O'Brien playing over Fehr. . .

Nothing was happening with Bura and Ovi, except the bad defensive shift(s). Don't have a problem with Trotz going back to Backstrom, if anything to make sure Ovi is paired with sbdy who is better defensively at this point.

Ovechkin looked like he had been out on town until six in the morning.

At least with his coordination. It was laughable.

Nickys line was dominating every time they were on the ice. Ovi had his best game since the game against the Devils. I don't see how they didn't generate anything. They had some bad moments but there wasn't any big reason to change the lines up.

Can't be serious

Haven't checked HF too much here, but on the bumper boards (if anyone uses them) the majority seemed to also agree that the caps wereplaying well or dominating.

um no. That was an insanely sloppy game from the caps and the refs. I'm surprised they weren't down by 3goals before the dying minutes.

Ovi with Buraka? no more.
Beagle in the top 6? no more.
Kooz in the bottom 6? no more.
Wilson not seasoning in the AHL? no more.

do what you need to pick up a a top6 center. Pavelski would be an amazing dream.
mojo+brouwer+1st
but to land pavs i wouldnt die if green/carlson/orlov were thrown into the mix of offers

ovi-backs-kooz
buraka-pavs-fehr
chim-latta-ward
obrien-beags-brown

is ECF capable imo

Just an overall impression that I got from Detroit is that they are a mature bunch. Their forwards for the most part played a more sophisticated game.

They don't have as many youngsters as regular roster.

Caps have a 19 year old plus 2 20's and our 22 year old is a Calder eligible rookie. I think this may come back to bite the Caps in the future.

Latta, O'Brien, Wilson, Burakovsky, Kuznetsov are all in training mode. When over 1/3 of your forwards are rookies it can't be good.

Sad to see a dive likely decide this one, guys.

Shameful stuff from Helm.

LOL, You can't be serious?!? You think that one play decided this game? How about when the refs took a freaking WINGS GOAL off the board and gave the Caps a power play for no good reason? The Caps were basically gifted a 1 goal headstart in this game and still couldn't find a way to win it. One tripping penalty in the 3rd didn't decide this one.

Sometimes teams play games and don't get rewarded for their efforts. Detroit badly outplayed Philly the other night and still lost. The Caps played well last night and still lost. They had their chances, but couldn't bury the puck, a few turnovers to good players and the puck is in the back of their net and lose. It happens.

The turnovers killed them, but that's going to happen some nights. Not too worried about that, I think they will clean it up. The problem I think is still Holtby, yea the team left him out to dry with the turnovers in own end but he's gotta come up clutch some games. I feel like he's the only goalie right now who can't just steal a game for the team. Like on that 2 on 1 the wings had, I knew from mid ice it was going in, just have no confidence in him being able to make a big stop. He looks lazy too, it's like he's surprised when the puck comes at him, i feel like he needs I show more urgency and be more aware. This is the first time in awhile I'm confident that the defense can hold it's own, and we have enough players that can score, great PP...just don't have a number 1 goalie who can stand on his head and steal a game for the team when they are having an off night. Need some consistency...still have hope for him, but it's slowly but surely running out.

Holtby makes great saves quite often and receives little credit... but he has definitely developed a tendency to let them in late in periods or games. This is mental. He is choking because his confidence has been destroyed by Oates. It's Korn's job to build it back up.

I dont think you can put Datsuyks goal on Holtby, that was a crazy snipe, if it wasn't Dats i would say just lucky, and people saying he was stationery and nobody attacked him? BS, players know how many others #13 undressed from that position...

Over all not a bad game, i thought Caps outplayed Detroit, but the deference was the goalie... Howard made necessary/clutch stops and Holtby didn't.

Also, as it has been said, Beagle should not have been in the line up over Fehr. Trotz is still familiarizing himself with the roster/players... growing pains... I hope...
